Those of you running the blue AFE 6637 style filter how often do you have to clean it? Mine looks like this a couple thousand miles after cleaning it, thinking about going back to the Donaldson Blue 6637.
Not the same application, but I used to run a pleated synthetic fiber filter similar to that in our Subaru. I changed a few years ago because despite cleaning it very thoroughly according to the instructions, it just didn't feel right in my gut.
I did not want to risk the engine ingesting dust or microscopic debris. We use the Subaru to go on Forest Service roads, BLM land and Jeep trails when out west in AZ up to WA.
I run the Donaldson blue 6637 with a pre-filter made by the FTE'r F250_ and purchased from RiffRaff diesel.
I have been running this setup since fall of 2018 and several cross country trips towing the 5th wheel. The filter itself still looks new and the pre-filter is easily washed.
There was some debate recently regarding the pre-filter choking (I mistakenly wrote chocking and still laugh at it) the 6637 style filter.
That has not been my experience thus far.
I have thought about going to the AFE filter like you have, but cost vs. benefit has steered me away.
