Did I install my CPS incorrectly?

This sounds kinda stupid as I'm writing it, but did I do something wrong when installing my new motorcraft cps?

I was having a crank no start issue last week. Then I Installed the brand new motorcraft cps and the truck ran absolutely great for 2 days, all I did was take the old one out, gave the void a little wipe and then lubed the new sensor with oil before installing it. Then on the third day it didn't start. Just cranked, no rpm on the tach and no white smoke. And then just now I took the new sensor back out, gave it a wipe and put it back in and the truck fired up right away.

So now I'm totally second guessing myself that I've been doing something wrong. Am I crazy? or maybe I just didn't tighten it enough the first time.

Was there alot of gunk when you pulled the new sensor back out?

The cps sensors are pretty finicky. Even new ones can be bad out of the box or intermittent.

You are installing it correctly.

Thanks for replying, I'm glad I wasn't missing some integral step that I hadn't read about or something. But yah it looked really clean when I took it out, no gunk or solids. I just got back from being out with the truck for an hour with a couple starts and stops in there. I've already ordered another cps in case this happens again. Hopefully my little "unplug /replug" fix works and I'll post an update in a bit either way.

Cheers

If it happens again you could try and shim the cps a little bit. Put a thin snap ring or something between it and the block. More than likely though your problem is in the wiring.

UPDATE:

Truck has been running great ever since I took the new cps back out and put it back in. I must have not had the pigtail clicked in to the cps all the way or something stupid like that. As always thanks for everyone's knowledge, it's very appreciated.

I'm glad it's working now! Always a good feeling when it's something simple and doesn't cost more money
