Nasty Vibrations

Hi All.

Posted over in the Excursion forums about my issues, but not ruling out it being an engine specific thing. My truck rides absolutely horribly and shakes over 50MPH, viscously when over 70. Something is just not right. Everything that I can think of has been replaced and serviced. Tires and truck have been aligned, balanced. Differentials both serviced, brakes all done, pretty much anything in the driveline I feel like can be ruled out. Steering wheel shakes back and forth. Only places I haven't looked deeper at are transmission, torque converter, transfer case, and engine. I have no codes. Driveshaft out in 4H the vehicle still shakes, leading me to believe it's a front end issue. Ripped apart the entire front end, found a seized u-joint, replaced both, still didn't solve the issue. Thinking it might be engine related, potentially motor mounts? I have no idea. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Take up to 50 or so and shift into neutral and let the engine idle. If you still have a bad shake it's not engine related. If the shake goes away at 50 mph in neutral and engine idling then it is most likely engine related. Are your drive lines assembled so the bearing caps of the u-joints line up? It is possible you had had a belt break on one of your tires and it is out of round. Most tire shops balance tires right around 35mph speeds IIRC. Have you replaced your steering stabilizer? B.

I would look closely at that sticking caliper you mentioned in my thread for your source of vibrations. I have had a rear sticking that caused shaking in the front. Also you said all brakes were done? You can replace all the hardware and miss an internal failure of a brake hose. I just dealt with one of those on one of my other vehicles. No brake fluid was passing through the hose.

I hear ya, I'm just not convinced because this has been an issue I've been dealing with for like 5 years now, truck has sat on and off as a result of me not wanting to drive it because of the way it rides. Will definitely be changing that this week.

To sort out for a wheel brake at issue, grab a cheap infrared gun and check the temperature of the rotors when this is occuring.
