A couple years ago I did head studs, 175/30 warren injectors, powermax with wicked wheel and a tow tune. Truck also has 4:30 gears and 4 inch downpipe/custom exhaust with no cat. I read lots of forums and even spoke with the company who was doing my tune before I bought the components because i wanted to make sure i could tow my 7500 pound trailer without issues. The tuner assured me that combo and their tune would work great, and that he had customers towing much heavier without issues. I have lots of egt issues. I usually tow around 70mph, and even up the smallest hills my egt's are always over 1200 and have even gone up to near 1500 (which of course i backed off throttle immediately ). I try to play the game where I downshift out of over drive but the truck wont downshift unless i let it slow to around 60mph, then the rpms rev to about 2500. Its quite hard to keep it out of overdrive, either the truck starts to speed up again or it will just shift back into over drive. Its a huge pain. Even if i can keep it out of overdrive often times my temps will hit 1300. Is something wrong with my combination of components, my tune or could there be something else wrong? On a side note, my truck is currently down and might be the turbo. If I need a new turbo should i do a KC 1.5 or 2 with this combo, keeping towing in mind?
While I can't speak directly to your set up, if you still have access to your tuner, you could ask them to tune OD out of your tow/haul mode.
I have I stock set up with studs and with my TOW Tune, in 6th I run 1000° at 65mph towing 8k lbs on flat ground. I tap the tow/haul button, drop to 5th and immediately lose 150° of EGTs. I actually get slightly better milage towing in 5th also.

That is a brilliant idea! I didnt realize that was an option. I'm going to reach out and see if that can be done on my tune. Thanks!
