I will be towing my TT up to Indiana in about 3 weeks and this will be the first time I've towed it with my DP tuner installed. It weighs in at 10k and I have the 80 tow, 60 tow and the 40 tow on my tuner. Should I leave it in overdrive and in 60 tow or should I take it out of overdrive and in 60 tow? Going through the smokey mountains will be the biggest headach. I have gauges and the 6.0 cooler so im not to worried there.

I towed my 37 5th wheel (15k) in my 80 tow tune, OD on. This was on fairly flat traveling. I say use whatever tune you like the best and tows your TT the best for you. If it's 80 tow, by all means get after it. You are good to go with that 6.0 cooler so only thing to watch is egt's... My buddy has towed his TT in his 100 performance tune with zero issues. Just figure out what works for your setup, keep the egt's down and have a safe trip!
Rule of thumb is if its searching for gears take it out of OD until your on flat ground again or egts go up too high... I bet you already knew that
Yes I did know that but I was just wondering on where to start off from. So I guess I start off in overdrive and 60 tow see how it drives. I plan on driving between 60 & 65 mph. Thanks for the input.
One my way down to Fl from the Smokies I pulled the long steep climbs in 40T and my EGT's were spot on. When I got to the small hills and rolling country I ran in 60T. But when I got into the flatland of Fl I tried running in 80E . I kept close watch on my gauge and she ran awesome ! Hardly knew that 34 ft fiver was on . Have a safe trip !
how old are your tunes??? We were in Cherokee (Smokies) appx 2 months age..80 tow all the way never seen 1200 on pyro,no issues with OD eather, left it all the way..My tunes are appx 4 months old..Pulling a 33' TT, like you appx 10,000lbs

That right there is why I chose the F6. I had shift issues and I let DP know the details. They emailed me a fresh set of tunes to correct the shifts and I was a happy boater.

no, I have no hard shifting, but I am live tuned and it shifts the way I like, firm but not hard and I like the down shifting. With 2 year old tunes,I would get with Jody and update them..
Maybe we can GTG sometime in the spring in Pigon Forge..We like to stay at the KOA there
Rob, you should be fine in 60Tow, and be able to use OD without much downshifting until you get into the bigger hills of the Smokies. Just keep an eye on EGT and listen for turbo surge. If either one of those become problematic, turn OD off and let the ol' girl wake up in the higher rpm's. Try to get a little momentum on the downhills if you can, the uphills will bring your speed down to 45-50mph most likely. If you can get the turbo spooled up prior to starting a climb, it will be easier to keep the boost up while pulling the hill. Have fun, you're going to see what these trucks are made for!
Tug! yea I had the hard shifts in 80E when I first installed the chip and was a PIA drivin a the slower backroads speeds. Lots of neck jecks! Jody put in the stock program and Now I gots plenty of power and no neck snappin!!
Hey Rob, I'm running php, not DP, but I throw it in 60 tow and walk the dog. Boost will run up to 11-14 lbs and as long as I hit the hill above 65, there's now downshifting needed. Keep an ear and eye out for surge and egt though. I start getting a little surge between 10-12.
I'm going to get a reburn and add 80 tow to see what it does. It definitely will feel better 65 and up than it will at 55-60, so don't hesitate to try out a few different speeds to see what feels best with your setup.
