Hello all. I'm new to the site, and the 6.0, but not wrenching or older Diesel. Just got this truck. No cel. Upon test drive I found a vibration on the highway when the cruise was enabled. Got the truck for a great deal so I figured worth dealing with it. Now after driving it for a day it has become much more evident at low throttle cruise situations, especially around 55. I ran a scan and got codes p0264 for #2 injector "a" low circuit, and p0266 # 2 contribution/balance. Along with 3 bad glow plug codes. Truck starts smooth, idles smooth, pulls like somethings chasing it, and runs down the highway at 70 like a caddy with my foot on the peddle. Truck has new ujoints in the driveshafts, front steering is all rebuilt, very well serviced, fluids all changed. I did notice the passenger dust cover was loose, but I don't think that is the issue. Any ideas would be appreciated. Truck is a 05 4x4 ccsb. Studded, egr delete, blue spring, 4" turbo back, sct tuner, and 116k miles
Do you notice a difference between 2WD and 4HI? That "hanger" seal won't cause your problem and is very common on these front axles. The glow plug codes should only be an issue on cold starts. But, get them replaced anyway. The cylinder 2 codes could be the issue. Need to dig into those more and find out what's wrong. B.
changed the oil with 5w40 synthetic, lucas synthetic additive, and a can of seafoam. Changed all the filters with motorcraft. Gave the tank of fuel a triple dose of diesel kleen. After a few hard passes on today's 300mile drive she cleaned right up. Starts better, pulls better, no vibrations. I will keep a eye on it. The oil was way overdue and the filters looked like trash.
These HEUI injectors in the 6.0L don't like dirty oil at ALL. I notice mine gets noisier around the 4500 to 5000 mile mark. Time to change at that point. It's possible you had an injector hanging do to extended service intervals. B.
Has your air filter been changed recently? Is it the OEM filter? Do you have a MAF sensor? If you do have one, have you unplugged the MAF sensor with the engine running recently?
Have you looked at the wiring to #2 injector and the IAT1 sensor? Inspected the connectors (at both ends of injector #2 and IAT1)? Ohm test injector coils and harness wires (both #2 injector and the IAT1 sensor)?
You have electrical codes, so I would recommend some electrical troubleshooting. We can help with wire colors and connector pin numbers if you choose to go down that path, and it is possible that that is one of your main issues.
Since you have an injector electrical code, I doubt that the issue is fuel pressure BUT, fuel pressure is critical to injector longevity. Every owner of a 6.0L needs to install a fuel pressure sensor and gauge. Hopefully fuel filters have been properly changed (10k-15k change interval). Fuel pressure must be kept over 45 psi at all times - even WOT.
Out of sheer curiosity, what are your oil and coolant temperatures after the engine has completely warmed up?
Lastly, in post #1 you stated that it was "very well serviced". Then in post #5 you stated that "The oil was way overdue and the filters looked like trash". Those posts don't exactly go together IMO. As stated very well by Linden Bruce, poor oil maintenance can cause a lot of problems with a 6.0L. If you know, how many miles were on the oil before the last oil change? How many miles on the oil now? Any oil consumption?
A review of a Lucas Oil additive: "One of the downfalls with this product comes from the fact it's not the best option for new engines. While it proves to be rather efficient with old engines, it could be too sticky for new ones, and glue the filth. Also, some users think it's a little expensive, even if it comes in a 1-gallon bottle that lasts."
Hopefully the additive you used is different, but I definitely am not a Lucas fan when it comes to oil additives. Not the best choice IMO w/ HEUI injectors (and the 6.0L injectors are different than the 7.3L ones).

I inspected, cleaned, and repacked the electrical connectors on the driver's side of the engine as I was going through it. It had some oil charged filter I had never seen, I replaced it with a k&n select. I am a huge fan of the lucas oil additive. The original says specifically to use the new synthetic one, which states on it for ford powerstroke engines. He had service records going back to 2008, all a 5k intervals for oil and fuel. In my past experiences this is very well maintained for a personal use vehicle. However yes when I actually got my hands on it I found the oil to be in desperate need of attention. I am trying to figure out how to read egt on my scanner, it has a edge probe. Can I also add a sensor for fuel pressure and read it from the tuner? I do really like the clean look from the dash. Thanks for the response bud, I appreciate it.
When it comes to the oil it is better to use a good quality Ford recommend oil, no additives as they can and usually mess with the injection system. Stay away from any oil that has SN anywhere on the jug or says multi vehicle. Change it often. Dino is usually fine if you hang out where it gets cold 5w40 is a good choice it also is good if the injectors are showing age. I like the Motorcraft in the 5 quart jug in 15w 40 year around.
I used rotella oil, and I live in one of the coldest places on earth. Almost every year we are in the news for being the coldest spot on earth at some point. I will keep in mind the additive advice. However I will say that it has ran magnificent after changing filters and fluids. Kinda crazy how much better really.
