If you punch in recall 91S39 in the search bar, you will find a few posts about these problems from back in '04 or so
I read through them and they seem correct. Good info
One on each tank was the fix
F3TZ-9J274-A
They go on each in tank pump. On the pressure outlet pipe
Okay, reading all the recalls and other links I'm kind of confused You're saying the valves go on the supply side on each tank, correct? but others have said they are put on the return side and I read another that said it was put on the return crossover line, so now is the time I need expert advice and instruction.
Again, thank you for sending them, it says the expected delivery is 10/11.
Also, i guess I didn't get the rear tank sealed as I thought I did, so this weekend I'm dropping it again. Is there a certain adhesive that gets sprayed on the lip of the tank or should I use a gas resistant RTV?
Just a new o-ring the tank if it is leaking
Use no sealant
Ok well it's on its 2nd oring now. The area was wire brushed clean both times so I can't figure out why it's leaking. I've done about a dozen fuel pumps over the years and never had this problem...thanks for the advice.
Most mechanics after about 50 years have more parts in their toolboxes than tools
I have 6 roll away tool boxes and about hundred drawers
Glad to get some parts out and gone
This was my original parts drawer from my dealer tech days
Glad to hear that, I thought I was the only one who cluttered their toolbox with parts, I keep trying to put them elsewhere, but they make their way back.
The tank itself may be no good?
The sealing ring at the top of the tank is welded on the tank
They can fail right there
You should be able to see if the square o-ring gasket has slipped when you remove it the next time
You should also be able to see if it was squashed enough to seal correctly
size. Original ring was flat about 1/8th thick but it had to be 3/8 to 7/16 wide it covered the whole lip area and I haven't been able to find another like it.
So maybe a green one will do you
What's the diameter?
Picture of the flange next t time you have it apart
Some of the flanges have a round groove for the O ring and need a thicker round O ring
I think the green ones are a slightly bigger square
Yes, this tank has a groove. The original gasket was flat and orange / remand it covered almost the whole lip. Hopefully I'll get the tank drained and dropped tomorrow to get a picture. I wonder if Ford would still carry a gasket for it?
