Window auto down troubleshooting

2002 Ranger. My auto down function is intermittently not working. Only the driver window has the function.

It will be fine most of the time, then suddenly stop working one time when the window gets partially down. It will continue to not work for awhile, then just start functioning normally again.

Are there common things to check? Can it only be a certain thing to cause this?

That function is made into the switch. When it see's a very high load on the window motor, there is a heat device that clicks in the switch to turn it off. I would think it's either there is too much drag on the window as it's going down and it's fooling the switch into thinking it's at the bottom. or the sensor/heat thing inside the switch is getting weak.

Ok, thanks. I'll take a look into that. It did seem to happen on hot days.

I'm in the auto/truck glass business and would agree with this----for an almost 20 year old vehicle it wouldn't be a shock. Using a silicone spray lubricant on the glass run channels (inside the door) might help too.
