88 vs 89 460 - Any differences?

Hey guys-

The 460 in my 89 (mfg date 8/89) is coming up on 200k, and I’m having oil pressure issues. I am getting ready to do a rebuild or swap.

I found a great lead on a low mile 460 out of wrecked motorhome. The date stamp is 8/88.

Does anyone know if there are any differences I should be prepared for or would this be a simple drop in?

Thanks,

In the trucks, 88 was the first year for EFI on the 460. Is that the same for a motorhome? I am not sure. I would say as long as it has factory EFI, it will be plug-n-play.

Thanks — yes it’s an efi. Here are the 88s tags on the motorhome engine.

Keep in mind that jas88 means plug your existing wire harness into the ‘88 long block. Don’t use the motor home wiring.

That date 'sticker' means nothing to the blocks date stamp.
I believe that date sticker is when the whole engine was put together, including the installation of the sticker on the valve cover, possibly even when the engine was put into the frame.

I also believe there is zero differences in 460 'blocks' of that era:
E7TE-BD – 1987-1995, 429/460 Big-Block Ford, 2-bolt mains, Truck
All 460's from 87-95 should have the E7TE in the block.

And... be aware, E7TE heads are EFI, and E8TE heads are last year of carbureted motor home heads...FYI.

Thanks everyone!

I ended up picking up the motor today. It’s originally an efi but the owner tapped the injector ports on the intake manifold and bolted them shut to bench run a carb on it. No bigger as I plan to transfer my intake, rails, etc. over.

My next question though. I’ve started seeing speculation about RV 460s potentially have different internals? Possibly different cam? Any truth to this? Most of the discussion I’ve seen has been around older ones..

Thanks
