I have a spark, Timing is correct, the fan is turning over meaning the starter is working, im manually throwing gas into the carb, New coil, new ignition mod.
Im think a fuel pump issue but with the gas in the carb it should just roll over..
Well, number one. How familiar are you with ford engines?
As i dont know you i can only guess so the front plug on the passenger side is number 1. Not driver side like damn near everyone else. Knew someone that went through this before it was pointed out that it didnt matter how good he timed one cylinder if all the others were wrong.
2. Was this truck originally efi since you say varb im guessing someone removed the fuel injection.
if so, do you have a carb style distributor and coil to correctly supply spark?
it was carb and yes I know passenger side is 1 AHHA. The coil is a standard 12v from napa should i try a MSD coil? ... Timed it using the stopper method. so i put in stopper rotate clockwise till it stops, mark balancer rotate other way till it stops mark balancer than mark center of them two marks = TDC?
stopper method assuming both valves are closed? simultaneously
If you are only assuming, you did it incorrectly.
You MUST do it on the compression stroke/power stroke.
It is possible, if you are assuming that both valves are closed, that you did the stopper method on the exhaust stroke/intake stroke.
You never said if it 'fired' when you manually threw fuel into the carb.
Did this thing run before rebuilding?
Why was it rebuilt?
It backfired on me when i threw in the fuel to the carb ... I re-did the timing again took off the cover and checked they are closed form what I can tell
I bought it from a guy that was rebuilding it and he couldn't do it anymore due to health problems +
could it ba a bad distrib? I put the MSD stuff back on and found spark still no fire up
According to the MSD ignition thread it is an ‘87 F-250 with a 460. It was a secret for a long time in that thread too.
87 460 would still be carbed from the factory. Now whether or not it's still the stock intake and carb, I have no idea. The OP doesn't seem to like to give details.
