Hi Folks,
I was wondering if I could get some help with codes. I just brought home my "new" 92 e250 with a 351. The engines stumbled a bit at start up, and the engine light was on.
after checking a KOEO test, I realized there was vacuum hose disconnected. The engine runs better, and the engine light isn't on...NOW..
I don't know what to make of the following codes from the KOER test:
-538 - invalid cyl. balance test due to throttle movement during test
536 - Brake on/off (BOO) circuit not activated during KOER
632 - Overdrive transmission cancel switch / no action during self engine run test.
do you think I should retest it? are these related?
any help would be great!
Thanks
Michael
During the KOER test, there are a couple of switches that have to be activated in order for the computer to "see" them. When you go into this test with a "scanner" it tells you to step on the brake pedal, turn the steering wheel, and activate the OD switch. These are "on/off" type switches and this is the only way the computer has to test them. If you didn't do these things during the test, they will set these codes. The throttle movement one I don't know about though. Did you play with the pedal during the test?
Thanks for the reply...I didn't touch the gas pedal, but when it starts, it does sputter a bit, so I suppose the computer gives it more fuel so it doesn't stall? not sure..
I will re-test tomorrow and see what happens..
Thanks Again!
Michael
During the balance test you should hear it stumble and come back then stumble. What it is doing is cutting off the injectors to test the clyinders to make sure that they are running evenly. Kind of like when you pull a plug wire to test a cylinder.
