Motorhome OBD

I've got a new 2021 motorhome on the F53 chassis. OBD port is getting power but all of my scan tools are getting data link errors and unable to connect. Could the port be bad or does this chassis require a Ford specific scanner? Here's a picture of the part numbers from the actual port. Is it a common one I could pick up used? I'm still under warranty but it's about 6 weeks for a service appointment right now.

Thanks!

Depending on how old your scan tools are they might not be able to read the protocols in the newer ECM. Do your scan tools have the ability to be updated over the internet? If so take a look to see if there is an update for you to install.

I did update the firmware in what I would consider my best scanner. Still no luck. I've got one of these ordered that I found mentioned in a forum somewhere as being one that plays nicely with Ford. We shall see...

I wonder if this would work? https://forscan.org/home.html

Ford had better not fool around too much with the OBDII standard. That is run by the government. At least the gov is good for something. If it wasn't for the OBDII you probably could not read a vehicle at all.

According to the OBDLink website the one I ordered is compatible with the lite version of the Forscan software. Received it today so looking forward to trying it tomorrow. Compatible with a lot of different apps.

I can 100% attest to this idea---my own Actron scanner could be updated until model year 2009---anything later and they naturally encourage you to buy their latest, greatest scanner.

Good thing I don't own anything newer than a 2005!

They're not. However, they're doing some advanced stuff on vehicle side of the gateway that less capable scan devices aren't "up to speed" on.

That is run by the government.
Technically, it's run by the ISO. The guv'ment simply mandated that the ISO standards be adhered to for new vehicles sold in the US.

At least the gov is good for something.
Debatable....

It will be interesting if he OBDLINK MX works properly. I've got one also and it works fine on my newest vehicle but that vehicle didn't incorporate the gateway module which, IIRC, came the following year for the Explorer.

Of course, it's always possible that the OP's gateway module is malfunctioning...

This thread has me wondering how the 2022 Lightning EV F 150 will interface, pretty much all of the gubmnt mandates for obdii don't apply to a non petrol vehicle. Would be nice if I can still use the VCMII for the electronics, body, hvac, etc....

I am sure if Ford can wiggle out of it they will. You have probably heard how Tesla has tied up most everything that pertains to their vehicles. I am sure Ford's goal would be the same. There are some smart people out there though who can figure out how to get around things sometimes.
