Front lighting behavior - Turn signals
because I have a headlight harness that has rodent damage on both sides, I want to be sure this is how it’s supposed to work and that’s how it works currently, so I can properly fix it.
I do recall the wires existing for the missing lamp… some time ago.. but I can’t find them anymore. I don’t know if I hid them in the harness or if they were falling apart.. or what. But as it stands, I need to either dig for the remnants of the lamp or splice off the one next to it, the larger 3157 bulb. I currently use LED so I’m not worried about overloading that wire, but that is correct, right?
like, the side marker DOESNT do anything such as switchback(like gm did a lot) or blink with the turns, it stayed illuminated with park or headl lamps and didn’t illuminate with just turns?
then, are the two signals at all different or do they have the same power source, thus behave the same. I know for a fact I had taken a socket plugged into the turn and placed it into the side marker when I originally was fixing broken headlamp housings, and it was then I discovered there wasn’t any working socket to place into the lower housing.
I just went out to confirm the behavior. I noticed the outer 194 doesn’t work with hazzards on driver side but I can’t compare since the passenger isn’t even.. uh.. there. But it does blink normally when turn signal is used
also The black thing inside the passenger turn signal is actually a led bulb that came out of the socket when I hit a deer…no later than 15 minutes after installing my new headlights 2 summers ago..lol… so I just said **** it when I couldn’t fish it out and just didn’t want to pull it off simply to shake it out.
the side marker at the the moment behaves as i think it should.
Thoughts? Input?
I wonder now what all has been done on this .. if that is how it is for everyone. My amber lens was falling apart and I replaced mine with 3 clear ones and just used amber bulbs. The side marker has some sparkling effect to it that I’m sure makes it reflect amber when truck is turned off at night. Looks clear in day but I had originally the amber bottom and side that was clear ish

issue has been fixed. Although it was one of the most Jerry repairs I’ve done.. not to proud of it. But because the passenger side is cracked from the deer I hit the day I put all the nice new stuff on, I don’t mind. I found a non motor craft 194 base in my stuff for a roof marker on a gmc that I never used because the plastic shells I just needed the wiring was all good. So I used it, undersized to fit the hole on housing, and some screws at angles to hold it in physically, sealed with liquid tape around outside, wired on a 2 wire connector of Delphi design, (so I can make an appropriate repair for future with nice housings, still can take it off truck etc) and just kinda sent it. I had the battery out for neg cable repair and I found my wires and stripped back an they were still kicking so I went for it. Found out the strange turn sig behavior I noticed on driver side was turn sig power was intermittently finding itself hitting the corner bulb hot and making it brighter the few times I checked lol. Bad insulation which I cleaned up and sealed.
now my lighting is all there yay
now time to find a way to mount a single LED pod without it being dumb that points outward and slightly down on driver side. I want more Ditch visibility on demand so I don’t have to aim headlight like a dick
