Can anyone tell me what could possibly be causing my brake booster to keep going out? It’s a 2017 F350 XLT. My second one just went out. That’s 2 in less than 6 months.
Both times, I put my foot on the brake when I start the truck. As it starts, I feel the brake pedal pop, kinda like it just gives. Then pressing on the pedal feels like pressing on the floor and no brakes.
I’m desperate right now as I’m sitting in the Buc-EEs parking lot.
What about steering? Is it hard also? Do you hear any noise coming from the ps pump? Is it possible the ps pump pressure relief valve is stuck and blowing the piston seals out of the brake booster? Before I would put another brake booster on I would do a autopsy on the broken one to see what is happening and then go from there.
I think I may have determined the issue. While waiting for the new booster to arrive, I was analyzing everything. Prior to removing the old booster, checked vacuum, seemed good and strong. Started trying to determine what was common between all 3 boosters. All 3 went bad while pulling my gooseneck trailer. Trailer has electric brakes, so other than extra effort, shouldn’t be the problem. 2 went bad on start up, 1 went bad while truck was running.
Anyway, once I removed the old booster preparing for the new install, decided to look inside. Found brake fluid inside the booster. You could see the rubber seal had swelled up in one spot and rolled. Only common thing between all 3 boosters was the master cylinder, never changed it.
So this time, replaced booster and master cylinder. Hopefully no more issues.
Any more trouble with the power booster? I've got the same problem only difference is that I did replace the master cylinder last time and still noted fluid in the booster.
