Adding Brake Booster on 74'
Adding Brake Booster on 74'
Rebuilding 74', it didn't come with a brake booster & while pulling other parts in the junk yard I came across a brake booster on the same year as mine. I pulled the booster only, the master cylinder's lid was off & I didn't know how bad it was inside so I left it there. I also pulled off the bracket through firewall too.
Question is can I put this on my truck as is or what do you masters of truck rebuilding think. It cost me $30.00 & a new one is over $100.00 so I thought why not try it.
The reason I want to add a brake booster is that it seems extremely hard to brake with no booster & when I start pulling a boat I thought I would need a little extra comfort in braking.
Thanks

Should work, I performed a similar swap on my '73....although there are some on here that will refute otherwise, get the whole brake pedal assembly from the truck (actual foot pedal), as I believe there is a difference between manual and auto/pwr brakes pedal.
Everybody is right. You need to go back to the bone yard and get the entire pedal assembly if you didn’t already get it. They are totally different.
As far as the booster goes, I wouldn’t worry about getting a new one for know. They are pretty much bulletproof and there are ways to test it after you get it on.
I would definitely get a new master cylinder. There is only about a 30 percent difference in the price of a new one over a rebuild and believe me the new one will be a lot less grief than the rebuild.
