Well it’s been a long time since I’ve been on here but kids wife and what not lol,
I’m building another Ford this time a 77 f150 4x4. On a good note it has a 78 460 already swapped in c6 and 205, unfortunately it was on propane which I’m well on my way to remedying.
Now my issue at hand I have one bent and one broken rear leaf, I’m curious if the 80-96 leafs will work in place, I found a chart and it seems they measure a little different and don’t have the load carrying capacity of the 70’s fords but is it enough they won’t fit? It seems every 70’s truck is crushed around here the second it hits the wreckers now and Pickens are pretty slim it was easier to do this 20 years ago lol any help would be appreciated
or the alternative is I just wait till I have more $$ buy a lift kit with a set and be done with it that way, but I’m looking to paint in the next week or two and dont really wanna have the box on when working on the back end which if I paint will get put on permanent
Ah well I guess I’ll keep rolling around in the 79 till I find my answers lol any help would be appreciated
oh and weight carrying capacity isn’t important the pick up will be getting 4.88 or 5.13 36’s and a spool in the back locker up front and will get lugged around behind either the 79 f250 4x4 or the 69 f250 2wd to the hills and holes and maybe down south to some of those fine trails in the states to try to fit In With the Jeep’s. any way let me know if those leafs would work, I appreciate the help 🍻
This site gives the dimensions that will answer your questions for factory springs. Just drill down to the model of truck then the years you have questions about and it will show you what springs came with what. Great resource !
Yeah I seen the charts for them there is a an 1”1/2 difference in measurement that’s why I’m asking if anyone’s done it and if they fit and functioned, I won’t use Chevy parts now or ever I’m not giving my friends who run gm’s the satisfaction lol
I guess my question is why bother to paint a truck you don't seem to be able to afford to buy the leaf springs for right now. Just wait until you get the suspension under it you want then paint.
Oh, and BTW how are your Chevy lovin friends ever going to know you have chevy leaf springs under your truck unless you tell them.

I was just up in vanderhoof close to you working, I know there are quite a few old 67-72 era trucks in the bush around there in farm yards, some 80’s stuff too seen one late 40’s early 50’s ton truck too. Also theres a fellow in pg who has a yard full of 70’s trucks decent prices good guy to boot.
nothing left for used parts in the shu, seems to be mostly late 80’s 90’s stuff now, my neighbour has a set, but he wants the same price for new, I bought parts off another fellow the other day behind my house he mentioned he had the same problem with his prices as well apparently his parts are gold infused lol
then the one wrecker that did keep them a bit shut down a year or so ago and crushed everything and sold the property
I guess my question is why bother to paint a truck you don't seem to be able to afford to buy the leaf springs for right now. Just wait until you get the suspension under it you want then paint.
Can afford it just trying to find used to keep it mobile till I get the lift leaving for work till Christmas in about a week and a half and have all the stuff here to paint it, hell if I wanted too I could dump $100000g in it tomorrow and be done but I like doing it myself and I also have other money tied up in sending my 79 for paint by a pro which isn’t cheap, plus I’m rebuilding a 390 for the 69, it’s not that I don’t have money there big shoots it’s just going somewhere else as of right now, just wondering if you could answer my question or not? Or are you gonna keep beating around the bush and not come up with an answer? Do you know if 80-96 leafs would work in a 77 Ford so I don’t have to rely on a 1/2” strap of metal holding it altogether for getting around my yard into my shop or are you just not going to really say anything of consequence and come to your own conclusions? Besides that some of my panels are bare in spots and I’d like to mitigate the rust while I have a chance it’s easier to prep and paint everything in one go and have the paint set up while I’m gone then to prime it and come back to it in 6 months covered in dust and what not

If you've looked at the charts I posted. You already know the answer the spring perch would have to be moved or are you having trouble figuring that out.Whose jerking who around.
