Engine and Intake paint - Yellow

I have done quite a bit of searching and am having trouble finding the answer. ..

I just had my intake sandblasted and I need to get some primer and paint on it. I have a 1955 223 which was Yellow.

What color and brand yellow are you using that is as close as you can get to the original color. I need something that I can paint both the intake and the engine with.

Ford New Holland Yellow seems to be the closest I can find but not sure there is anything out there that can take the heat from the intake (and exhaust manifold right below it). Can an automotive paint shop mix something up? 2k paint?

I sprayed the engine in my old Mercury in 2016 with acrylic enamel with an appropriate amount of catalyst. It still looks good almost five years later. I have about 2000 miles on it since it was painted. Your local automotive paint shop should be able to mix any color you want.

The early Y-blocks were also yellow. If I recall correctly we determined the closest color was Daytona Yellow.
Here is a thread, I'm guessing they used the same paint between the V8 and 6.

Thanks. Looks like problem solved. Still a little unclear if the Duplicolor will hold up on the intake but I will give it a try.

I assume no primer is necessary.

The duplicolor didn't hold up well for me on the intake. Although, I may not have prepped it all properly. I was, and still am, a novice on painting anything.

Caution to sandblast intake!

[QUOTE=8pack;19976878]I have done quite a bit of searching and am having trouble finding the answer. ..

I just had my intake sandblasted and I need to get some primer and paint on it. I have a 1955 223 which was Yellow.

It is not recommended to sand blast a intake to clean it! The media will become imbedded and eventually fall out with heat cycling of the engine.
Take extra care to inspect all runners!
Best regard
Dirk

Oh wel….too late for that. I am going to take my cylinder head in to be rebuilt. Maybe they can hot tank it and resolve that potential issue.

I also have a second intake but the heat riser flap is frozen.

When I called Bill Hirsch about the paint they said to put their hi temp primer underneath the final coat and that will likely keep it from burning of. No guarantees of course but they said that usually works.
