I have a 95 F150 with the 4.9L 300. The intake manifold paint or whatever it is has cracked at all the edges of the lettering on the top. How do I go about removing this and then should I paint with high temp paint or just normal paint?
Since no one else has jumped in, I asked hubby for his advice.
The best and easiest way to remove the old paint would be to work with the manifold off. Then you can sandblast it clean (best), hand sand or try some kind of paint removers.
As for the paint, you do need to use a heat tempered paint.
I had a Performer RPM manifold done, the aluminum was rough cast so that had to be polished first then coated. The shop charged $200 (Cdn.) for the whole job. Not as cheap as paint but it looks unique and keeps the charge as cool as an air gap manifold (according to magazine articles). Hope that helps.
powder coating works well also. you can do it yourself easy enough harbor freight sells a nice little setup that is very inexpensive. to bake the finish on all you need is an old oven or earplugs for when your other half catches you using hers
