Hey Everybody, I just bought a beautiful 96 f150 short body with the 302 motor and e4od automatic transmission. Shes a beaut. I've fixed the starting issue, power steering, all the suspension and brakes and replaced the shifting selonoid on the transmission just underneath the tranny pan. The current issue with the truck is that it will shift hard after being driven for half hour or so, It is leaking fluid I believe from the rear main seal. Could this leak cause hard shifting once the transmission and fluid comes to temperature because of a pressure issue?

if you have a substantial leak that’s possible logically but I don’t think you would be able to out leak the computer controlled line pressure without puking quantities incompatible with driving.
Why did you replace the solenoid and what solenoid was it. The original, did it test bad? Condition of the fluid you , I hope, replaced?
im saying this because my trans gets hot pukes fluid and still shifts just fine until it gets really low so I don’t think it’s that. I have a 96 e4od but a 300(guessing that doesn’t change much)
im going to install a cooler here soon but I just replace a tps with erroneously false readings from my ignition system onto poorly aged wiring that was cracked. And the sensor broke when I removed it. It’s been acting and shifting more reliably and I suspect the torque converter is locking up more as intended so I assume it will translate to lower temps but I have not driven much yet. Giving it drive cycles and more monitoring the temp PID To verify effect
