Ok, done some work to my 2004 F250 w/ super duty 6.0. Recently, new batteries, new starter, new alternator.
started the truck and was running fine then shut off on its own. Turn the key and I have nothing out of the starter. Dash gauges are all on and seem to work but will not roll over. I changed the ECM last year if that matters. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Truck only has 200k miles.
Whenever electrical problems arise it is always a good idea to check grounds.
So if you're getting no click out of the starter then the solenoid isn't engaging the plunger. This could be a bad solenoid on the starter, bad wiring between the ignition switch and the solenoid, or a bad ignition switch.
If you're getting a click but it's not turning over, the starter motor could be bad/seized, or bad wiring between the battery and the starter. If your voltage at the batteries checks good you can rule them out. The other possibility here is that you had a catastrophic engine failure and the engine is locked...but it sounds like you try to take care of your truck so I wouldn't go down that road yet, just stating it IS a possibility.
Did you visually inspect the wiring, or did you actually check for continuity between the ends of wires? I have had wires that looked fine but had no continuity between the ends due to broken wires without broken insulation.
Well since I’m on the road 30 days a month I farmed it out. Found out the pcm went bad. Said it’s not common for them to die but on occurrence it happens.
Since many of these trucks were smog exempt when first sold a class action lawsuit may be necessary.
We were sold a bill of goods if smog exempt factored into our buying decision, which i know it did for me.
