Replacing One Caliper

I replaced the front brakes last year in June. I used Power Stop calipers and slotted rotors. One of the calipers is frozen up. I don't want to put any more than needed into the front end as I'm doing an axle swap later this year. I'm going to try to get away with just replacing the one caliper and pads. Will there be any issue replacing with a regular reman caliper? Are the internals different as to cause uneven braking? Just want to be sure.

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Stuck caliper is usually caliper/rotor and pad time, but I suppose if caught early the rotor could still be fine? Probably really got heated up and warped though I'd think. Replacing one caliper at a time will not affect anything. Happens all the time.

Thanks! Yeah, hoping not to replace the rotor. I caught it early, we'll see. It didn't get overly hot, last time it happened, it was crazy hot! I don't think I can get a power stop rotor locally tomorrow. Going to try caliper and pads first.

Are you sure it's the caliper and not a collapsed hose causing it to stick?

Power Stop calipers are just standard calipers that have been rebuilt and painted Red. You should have no problem replacing it with an AutoZone , O Reilly’s etc. Hopefully your rotor is not warped but I would replace the pads on both sides so the wear is even.

Not completely sure, I'm going to tear it apart tomorrow before I get parts. I was thinking I've replaced the hoses, but that may have been my last Excursion. Took a quick look earlier and looked like the piston boots were torn.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but wanted to be sure. Would definitely replace the pads on both sides.

As noted, powerstop caliper is just a reman part the same as any other caliper but painted red. If your current pad still has material on it I would run it or replace both sides.

It's not the hose, I had already replaced with metal lines. The pistons aren't frozen, must be hanging up, the inside pad had excessive wear and the back side of the rotor was also in terrible shape.

Uneven wear is usually a sign of the calipers not sliding. Make sure you lube the slides good when you put it back together.
