Correct me if i am wrong, but assuming he has already run the motor in its current state, potentially interfering to hell, doing a compression test will not cause any further harm, and will tell him whether its even worth taking the cover off, or just pulling it intact and sending it to rebuild.
I am no expert in these motors by any stretch of the imagination but I would think that yes, if it was run and had valve or piston damage due to incorrect timing, a compression test shouldn't make it any worse and would give an indication as to the condition without a massive teardown.
I have a borescope I have done through spark plug and through injector oil there was no damage. slight oil coating or liquid visible but not accumulated in any cylinders and i excepted fluid resting on top of intake vale and they where bone dry. any clues? thanks for advice. I am trying to get a picture of behind cylinder 5. i did go from stock fuel injectors (half was bad ) to some remaned ones on ebay. they said they where for my truck i went from a 32millisecound pulse to 5 ish to 7 ish. will that cause any of this? When it starts it seems like it is not getting fuel? Thank everyone for helping!!
That hole that isn't covered is perfectly normal on these engines, I think it allows for either head to go on either side of the block, very strange but OK.
Several things could still be in play though. A vacuum leak could explain all of this. So could an ignition or timing issue.
Will your analyzer/scanner show any details on cylinder ignition? If it sat for a year there could be corrosion issues in any of the connections, including plug, cop, injectors, etc.
I would like to Thank All those that offered a comment or a suggestions!!!!!! It has been fixed. Though I feel like a dumb a-- I hope someone else learns from it. I found 1 injector not connected, new clips have to push harder, looked on but pulled right off. And in c.o.p connecter on bank 2 not connected as well looked on put pulled right off!!!!! Prrs like a kitten!!!!
Now i have found that circuit or fuse 13 (washer) keeps blowing, Does ANYONE have a schematic or diagram for 2000 6.8l 4x4? It would Greatly help me!!
BassFantasier. Kinda but on the current misses i would se it toggle but never weirdly signified to a individual one, Only that general count and would reset to 0 right after a miss even though it was happening all the time. On both scanners icarsoft cr plus and foxwell nt510 elite.
