Mark ( @Walleye Hunter ) just called me and told me he is having truck problems a long way from home and is seeking advice. He asked me if I could create this post after we talked about some things for him to look at in order to try and resolve the issue at hand. He is currently outside of Utica NY in "farm country" as he described it and does not have a data signal strong enough to ask for help on the forum.
He was driving while I was talking to him, so he is not dead in the water as of this time. He is having intermittent total loss of power due to the engine dying/shutting off without any warning.
Symptoms and actions taken listed below:
Mark is driving an E99 7.3L.
He is taking note of when the truck stalls to see if there is a pattern or any similarities.
His WIF light would illuminate, so he unplugged the fuel bowl heater, but the problem persists.
He is hearing a "clicking in the center of the truck".
There is no warning of the truck stalling, but it will start right back up and he can continue on for an undetermined amount of time.
I recommended he look at following areas and call me back:
PCM fuse in under dash panel.
42 pin harness over valve cover.
PCM secured.
PCM 101 pin connector secured.
Look for water near the GEM and see if it is loose.
Check battery terminals and main engine grounds.
IDM connector.
Tuner chip. He has a live tune, no chip.
I told him the clicking is most likely one of the flasher relays or the fuel pump relay. Might be a cause, but might just be a symptom.
I don't suspect an UVCH or something else that is not total system related since the engine shuts off completely.
My first thought is the issue is electrical or module related due to the way the truck is stalling, then able to come right back on. I suspect a main system connector (PCM / 42 pin / IDM / positive/negative connections) is loose or shorting. His truck does not have the positive terminal block on the driver side wheel well, so I didn't mention that.
Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Hope Mark can get a scanner on it and see if there are any indications of the issue. If the IPR tin nut is on tight, I'd swap out the CPS next. Might need to ohm out the CPS wiring at some point as well.
There was a lot going on here so I may habe missed it, but anyone suggest the diode in the fuse block? Actually had mine act up yesterday. Seemed a little loose in the slot and every time I would wiggle any of the fuses close by I would hear clicking sound.
Ok folks, thanks so much for the help. Quick story...after replacing the CPS there was still no change. But by the grace of God, the problem ceased as quickly as it surfaced and I made it to camp. Five hours later than expected but I made it. Took a nap and fired it up for heat (no kidding). It appears as though the fuel pump is not singing its key on song. So now I am in safe harbor with a primary suspect, who could ask for more? Now, is there a relay that I should look at? Which fuse runs the pump? And I don’t have a fusebox map with me so it’s location would be nice too.
Big thanks to Sous and Adam (Freakify) for the help.
Mark, I'm late to this party (what's new?) as usual. Did you crack the fuel drain open after the WIF warning? It might actually have been water in the fuel if you are out in the sticks and you bought fuel out there.
