installed CAT 2 micron filter today

my 2019 f-450 got a CAT 2 micron filter today.

I would say the install took some engineering as the position CAT says to install does not have bulk head bolts and the nearest bulk head bolts are too far away.

so I decided not to use the CAT provided mount.

I remembered that one of the other filter systems...maybe S&S uses a foam liner in the OEM position so I made the foam liner and slide the CAT filter in the OEM position.

that worked and the lines connected right up.

plan is to use the CAT 2 micron spring, summer, fall and switch the element to the same baldwin element used in the s&S system. that would give me 4 microns during the winter.

I have a plug and ply AFE under chasis lift pump on the way and when that gets installed...that should complete my fuel system mods.

pics tomorrow since its dark out right now.

Is this the kit you went with?

No, that’s s 4 micron filter.

but to be honest, I would recommend the H&S kit and just use the 4 micron during the winter and get a CAT filter element for spring, summer and fall.

note that spring clamp. Don’t use it. Get about an inch of half inch heat shrink and put it on the hose end and use a small hose clamp.

my kit had the spring clamp and it popped off 3 times on the way to take my wife to the airport. Luckily I was able to put her in a cab a d she made her flight. C

i was able to get back on the road becuase I happen to have a small hose clamp.

ALSO, the spring clamp popping off could be becuase I run B20, and there may have been excessive back pressure thru that 2 micron filter.

with the hose clamp it’s fine.

I am going to try different barb fittings to see if the teeth cut angles make any difference. Will also see if up sizing it would give a better grip. I think these kit come with 1/8 3 teeth and I’m going to try some deeper cut 4 teeth and maybe even a 3/16.

this small return hose is a piece of crap and eventually I’ll probally convert the 1/4 hose system to a 1/2 inch hose system.

no telling what will happen when I add my lift pump which is going to boost the psi 8 to 12 psi.

some random pics next.

this is the funky spring loaded clamp. Don’t use it. Get a small hose clamp and use some heat shrink to protect the hose from cuts.

this is how I installed it.

I used the S&S net bond and made a foam collar and stuck the filter in the own housing. Hoses lined right up.

didn’t use the L mount.

ALSO, my hose piping off problem could also be becuase I have the return hose in wrong…it should point down. I’m going to move it when the barb fittings come in.

this is the style barb fittings I ordered. More aggressive teeth and a little longer.

this is the CAT 2 micron filter element. I’m told that this will fit the S&S and the S&S 4 micron Baldwin and six will fit on the CAT manifold. S&S does not recommend using a 2 micron. They said Ford designed for 5 micron for a reason and S&S thinks the 4 micron is e Pugh of an improvement. I told them I was not going to use the 2 micron during the winter.

I ordered the filters used on the S&S to see if they fit my manifold.

@speakerfritz you can get worm drive clamps that have a solid band all the way around the clamp so there is no need to protect the hose. I don't have a part number or "name" handy but I will go out to my garage and see if I can get a decent pic of one.
