Living in western PA., I've never seen the 'Nothern Lights'. Tonight when I went outside, about 30% of the shy was filled by a haunting red glow from the recent solar flare activity. I'm hoping that tonight at work, the colors get more dramatic !!
I hope this pic works. It's a 'Sun Cam' and updates every 4 hours.
And don't worry, ya won't go blind looking at it !!!
Hey 2Bowers did you go out and look right after that last post 8:15 ish ? I was just wondering, cause we were sitting out from 7:45 till about 10:00 we had a small fire going and just sat in the reclining lawn chairs and caught the show with a couple of beers.
I'm about 400 miles northwest of you and I was wondering if the show tonight was as good in your neck of the woods ?
It was the best display of the northern lights I've ever seen, I've spent a fair amount of time well north of the 60th and seen some good auroras, but nothing like tonight. Man I love living in the bush, no light pollution around to distort natural wonders ( or is it supernatural wonders? )
Where I work I see them almost every night. Sometimes we completly stop loading an aircraft just to watch. I've got the best seat in the house for that show.
I went out tonight, I set up my tent and im sleeping out there tonight, skipping bio tomorrow, I am just gonna stay up and watch them. I have seen them before, never this well. There was a massive red flare a few hours ago, but I missed it, most have been light green but there have been some blues and a yellow.
WOW Christop!! I wish they looked like that from where I'm at !!
About every ½hr. at work we went out to see if anything else was happenin', but it was just a black sky, filled with stars. And alot of them at that. We did manage to get a glimpse of a few shooting stars around 5:00am though. Better than nothin' !
