Not sure it helps with your opinion on manual hubs, but my Excursion is going on 260k miles, I live up in the rust belt, and I haven't had a single issue with ESOF engaging 4WD.

So can you answer the question or do we just all assume you made up lies to scare people?
When we apply for insurance we are asked a number of questions to assist determining the risk and what discounts are available..

For about the past 5 or 6 yrs, they always ask if the vehicle has AEB. If present we receive a premium reduction. We also sign that our answers were factual and that as per the terms & conditions, false statements may render the insurance null & void.

: This system is an extra driving aid. It does not replace your attention and judgment, or the need to apply the brakes. This system does NOT automatically brake your vehicle. If you fail to press the brake pedal when necessary, you may collide with another vehicle.

I wonder if it's dependent on insurer and/or where you reside. I wasn't asked any specific questions about features, or required to sign anything when I added my '19 SD.

I was driving south on a 2 lane state highway. A vehicle coming onto the highway from a side road into the northbound lanes crossed the yellow lines into my path for a moment. The AEB system went active, alerted me and pre-charged the brakes. Fortunately I didn't need them but I was grateful that had I needed it, the additional braking power was instantly available. Until that moment, in about 50 years of driving I have never needed a vehicle to brake for me to save my behind or the front of the truck.

That's my story. It won't convince anyone. But I became a fan of AEB and now usually run my DRLs as well. Rapid Red is hard to see on big trucks.

On edit:
1. I also have the AEB discount. About $9 a month but may include other safety discounts.
2. Under settings you can adjust the sensitivity of the AEB. You can turn it down but not off.
3. Kinda ugly to be calling people liars... you don't get "likes" doing that.

So you were changed by an "almost" experience? One where you really have no idea if it would have helped one bit...

I can turn off the braking right in the dash...

I am not here for the likes but when people show up, write fictional stories to scare the uninitiated, that seems a WHOLE LOT worse than calling it as I see it...
