I live in a very rural area and I do not need any assistance form the machine other than it to obey my commands. As mentioned we just sold a vehicle that had an even more complex system than this and I found it to be downright dangerous. My wife hated that car for it's self driving tendencies. Some were defeatatble the auto braking was not. We both had the car slam on the brakes in traffic, at speed for cars turning left or right off of the highway. It gets the attention of the people behind you for sure. I think it is particularly sad that people can not pay enough attention driving to solve these problems without electronic intervention. I held a class A licenses for over two decades, I have driven millions of miles in hundreds of different vehicles. I have NEVER rear ended another vehicle. There is a much greater chance it will annoy me regularly than it will ever save me so I am keen to exercise that choice.
i believe it all started about 20yr ago with day time running light. and torq managment and locking differentials that disengage above 20mph and traction control and rain sensing wipers and automatic braking and many more features im probly not aware of. not sure if theyre protecting stupid people from theirself or trying to save the rest of the world
Despite the insanity of ordering a new truck right now, I am going to do so next week. I am seriously tempted to forgo a few options and get an STX instead of an XLT or maybe the Lariat. I absolutely do not want a truck that will EVER brake for me automatically. By getting the STX I do not have to accept this feature which comes standard on the XLT and Lariat. If I do go for a higher trim level can this feature be defeated? Willing to do it through Forscan if it is possible that way but I was hoping I could turn it off easily. If I stick myself with it, can I turn it off?
I was also hoping to avoid ESOF, the automatic shift on the fly. I asked the salesman but he thinks it is required. No way to get a lever and manual hubs from Ford anymore? The vacuum system is another boondogle I would prefer to avoid.
I’ve read you can pull the ABS fuse and pretty much disable all the nannies. YMMV…
Just my 2 cents since I have same feeling as op. May check cab chassis trucks if you plan on flatbed or something. I bought a F450 just cause it didn't have any of those systems and was about 8k cheaper than same version of 350 (I went gas so no 450 pickup option). Maybe cheaper in long run.
I can't blame you for not wanting something that you never had before and never needed. I have it on my f250 and it does activate sometimes.
I also plow snow in the winter and it never activated while doing that. Just go with what you want, good luck.

Good to know it hasn't caused problems plowing. I have had it before, just not on a truck. I didn't care for it and I don't need it. Sounds like there are ways, besides pulling the ABS fuse and looking at warning lights, to defeat it.
It does not stop for you. All the system does is preload the brakes so they respond quicker. It does not apply the brakes for you if you are too close to something.

My 2020 and my 2022 will stop the vehicle if you don't.
From the 2022 manual:
The 2020 manual calls it Active Braking:
Funny, I felt the same way about your response to me...
There was no invitation for discussion about the systems merits in my question. If my response offended you I am sorry but I have no idea why people would choose to abdicate driving responsibility to a computer. I will resist this as long as I am able.
My 20 Lariat trim you can turn off on the screen options. I'm thinking there are a few choices for sensitivity too. The blazing flashes and audio chirps sound out every once in awhile at road speeds over say maybe 20 or better when maneuvering. So we have lights on in the day, big high 3rd brake lights, where I live intersections are mostly all 4 way stop, no blinking green or yellow lights for intersections any more, blinkers used after braking and starting the turn, most sheep are stupid and need the Shepard to lead them. Some others are not sheep and have to suffer for the masses.
The VIN tells insurance companies which vehicles have AEB, and I think most give a discount when it's present (mine does). Should you have an accident that could've been prevented with the AEB, and your insurance company finds it had been deactivated before the accident, you could possibly be designated as an assigned risk. I don't know what the consequences might be if you were to inform the insurance company beforehand that you intend to drive the vehicle with AEB deactivated.

Another "fabricated risk" scenario for the paranoid! I PAY the ins co to CMA, that is the contract. I do not negotiate or inform them of a damn thing. Have an issue, call them up, they pay. If it was my "fault" I guess we can expect a premium increase but some of you have a very odd relationship with your insurance... I have never had them question any accident ever or refuse to pay.
They didn't offer a discount on my wifes last car with auto braking and I asked because when it was new 5 years ago the systems were fairly rare still. There is no mention of it on my truck policy, I looked.
So how about those of us that have AEB failure records? Mine has shut itself down twice now in 10k miles for no reason. Does the insurance company then sue Ford for making a crap system? Never know if it is going to work or not.... It just amazes me how far peoples imaginations go these days.
Can you substantiate ANY of your claim? You 100% made all of that up based on nonsense fears, zero facts with the intent of influencing others. That is fear mongering and it is pretty irresponsible. It leads to the stupid ideas that the weight police actually check payloads and other well told lies around here. Or you can go to jail if you crash over the sticker. Sad that you choose to engage in such activities. The world doesn't really need "help" like that right now.
If you have some actual facts regarding what you claim please post them. Otherwise, fact is, you made it all up and it has zero bearing in reality.

You're still free to think anyway you wish and I ain't gonna' waste my time arguing. Have a blessed day, OK?

Sorry but it isn't about "the way I think". YOU made up a story and presented it without any factual basis. There isn't an argument, this is a call out for the lies you posted. It would be nice if people were respectful enough to substantiate their claims if they are going to make them. Dropping falsehoods like that, as mentioned isn't helping anybody.
So can you answer the question or do we just all assume you made up lies to scare people?
