If you use any carb other than the stock one, you have to remove the computer and convert to duraspark igniton, or use an aftermarket dist and ignition. The computer completely controls the timing of the engine, there is not mechanical or any advance mechinism in the dist. The computer uses inputs from the tps on the carb to determine advance and timing. So when you remove that input, the computer's timing is usually less than satisfactory.

Do you have emissions testing? If not, I would consider converting to duraspark ignition, and just using a standard 70's for 2100D 2V carb. One off of a 2.8 from a pinto or mustang II, or a carb off of a 302 that has a 1.08 venturi size are reported to provide the best results. I am running a 1.08 venturi V8 carb on mine after converting to durasprk ignition an removing the computer. My milage improved from 12-18, and power greatly increased. You could put a 4V on it with the offenhauser intake manifold, but inless you get into the motor with a cam and headders, they don't offer much improvement over a 2v carb.
