Bent Brake Drum Flange

@bigwin56f100 found a pair of rear drums fir my ‘55 F250 I should be able to use but one has a bent flange. Can a machine shop sort that out and is the drum still useable? See pic.

Thanks !

Looks like scrap from here. I'd prefer a round drum with a groove or two for now. That's been done a few million times.

When new are seemingly available, I wouldn't work with extremely used like your picture. What year 250? Are we talking Dana 44?

The Rock Auto link is 57-68 and the second link is for front drums which I don’t need as I am converting to front disc.

Unfortunately, I need rear drums for a ‘55 and it seems they are not available anywhere.

@bigwin56f100 was nice enough to pull these from a truck he has so I am hoping I can use them both. The other drum looks like it might be ok and should be able to be cleaned up.

I don’t know what rear end I have. I need to figure that out and have no idea how to do that yet. Still learning.

I looked at that drum again now that the sun is going down and i think that was just a shadow.
I’m going to take these to my friends shop and cut them and see how they turn out

Looking by specific vehicle application databases can problematic as their accuracy can be questionable especially going back that far. I asked about the axle as sometimes looking parts up that way yields better results, especially since Ford used some Dana axles that may live into more "modern" times and therefore have parts available at your local auto parts chain under a different vehicle application

Maybe we will be surprised at how well the drums bigwin sources clean up. Keep us posted, and post a new thread asking how to identify your rear end. Picture of the pumpkin bolt pattern, any casting numbers, and your data plate is a good place to start.

Yep, you have a dana 60 if it is stock. Older drums are different than the newer ones (rears are mostly a direct fit up to 1972)
The newer rears you have to remove the axle to pull the drums.
Here is the 55 drum

Here is a 71 drum

So are there drums that will fit the 55 from other years? In the link earlier in the post rock auto had a rear drum available for a 56 but maybe it fits a different rear end?

Spoiler

It looks like those drums bigwin found are off of a 53. From what I can tell the 53 had a Timken rear end. If that is the case will the drums fit a ‘55. I am guessing no?

Thanks all you have been super helpful.

My old Ford parts catalog only goes to 55, but I show the same 12" brake drum is used from 51-55 for F250's, TBAA 1126-A. They may fit later, but as I mentioned my catalog doesn't go that far.

I am going to make a separate post so it is easy for people to find in the future. After reading all the referenced posts and additional research I came to the conclusion that a 57 rear drum light fit. I called CTEK (manufacturer) but they could not confirm fit on a ‘55, only the ‘57. Rock auto has them for $35 plus $10 shipping so I decided to roll the dice and buy one.

It fits perfectly from what I can tell. It is the same size in all dimensions. It might be a hair wider on the inside diameter but I don’t have calipers to check. I think I just need to use ‘57 shoes to be sure they are the right thickness.

Pics…
