Installed the speedometer cable today. It's a new cable from Mid-fifty and my stock 3 speed transmission has a R10 overdrive. I don't remember what it looked like 10+ years ago when I tore down the truck for restoration. It seems to me that the flange on the cable end should bottom out against the case. I tried it with and without the speedo gear installed. The O-ring does make contact for a seal. Also it seams that the clamp is on the cable backward.
Is this installed correctly?
Thank you
Bob
The clamp appears to on backwards and the speedo cable housing should push right in so the o ring is not visible . Vaseline works well to slip the o ring in .
I'll try again with some Vaseline. At first I thought maybe the speedo gear wasn't mated to the drive gear so it kept the cable housing from going in. When I tried it without the speedo gear it was the same. The clamp is placed over the cable during manufacture and can't be flipped.
I appreciate the help.
