Trying to replace my speedo cable ('62 f100, original 223 w/ 3spd column), the new speedo cable doesn't match the original at the end attached to the transmission. After looking around, it seems everything I can find has the same end as our new cable.
Question is, do I need a new speedo gear with the new cable (and where to get it) or info on where to find correct speedo cable. Pictures below.
I forgot to mention that the new cable is supposed to be for this truck, and has the clip for attaching like the original (not shown in the picture). Also the other cables I checked were correct for the model/year. thanks
Is the speedometer cable housing kinked? If not, you don't have to replace the entire speedo cable.
Inside the speedo cable housing is a woven steel core that is supposed to be lubed every so often, but many people are unaware.
The lube dries out, the core binds up inside the housing and snaps.
Autoparts stores carry a woven steel core kit. You cut it to length, coat w/a fine film of graphite, install in the housing.

Unfortunately the end of the cable that attaches to the tranny is all that is left of the original cable assembly....no cable housing and no core.
I can't imagine there isn't a 'new' cable assembly that isn't available.....or that all of the part suppliers are specifying an incorrect speedo cable (well, I guess that may in fact be typical).
Oops...in re-reading your note, Numberdummy, is the part no. you listed for the cable assembly or just the core?
Woven steel core kit sold by autoparts stores. I haven't a single clue what the part number would be, and the number would vary from one autoparts store to another.
C3TZ-17260-FA is the Ford part number for the Speedometer Cable Assy (includes woven core). I listed 6 sources that have 16 NOS cables available. So call around for the best price.
