2014 Explorer Intelligent Access Key Programming (FORScan)
After much searching here and online there were hundreds of hits where everyone stated you have to go to Ford to get a new master key programmed when have only one in your possession. I have used FORScan on other vehicles I have owned so I ordered a real factory Ford IAK and a chinese made knock off about a week ago. Once everything arrived and I got my FORScan extended license I was ready to rumble. Sure enough I could add the new Ford IAK as well as the chinese knock-off as additional keys. But I knew only the original key was going to work as a master.
I took the plunge then erased all known keys in FORScan. Once that was completed I used the original IAK and the new Ford IAK and programmed them as masters. Everything went well, actually better than expected to be honest. Then I tried to add the chinese IAK and failed about 6 times. I figured I had the vehicle in stand by mode for too long and most likely drained the battery a bit too much. After running a few errands, charging the battery for ~30 minutes beforehand, I tried to add the chinese IAK again and failed. The last ditch effort was to insert the IAK in the center console holder upside down instead of right side up (push buttons towards the front of the console). One more push of the program button in FORScan resulted in a programming successful message.
So now I have two real Ford IAKs as masters and a spare knock off that works. Now I have to see if the friendly folks at the local Ford dealer will cut the emergency use keys for me :-)
BTW I found the keyless entry code listed on a module to the left of the brake pedal, thank you YouTube, so now I also have a personal key code to unlock the doors as well.
