Key bob ?
Key bob ?
I know there is place for the bob in the truck... i am new to the push button start. See some folks leave them in truck and use key pad for entry etc.... looks dangerous to me... what am I missing...??
Nothing dangerous about leaving the key “fob” inside your truck. You can keep it in the console, or where ever. There is a hidden compartment under the left side of the console / cup holder that has a cut out to place the fob. That isn’t a storage location, it is used for programming a new fob.
I might call it dangerous as anyone could break in and drive away since having the fob in your truck allows it to be started. I can't believe it's really that hard to carry it in your pocket.
I know on my 2019 if the key is in proximity then you can auto-unlock the doors just by grabbing the handle, so I would not recommend leaving it in the truck. On my 2015 I used to leave the key in and just use the door code but it had a standard ignition. I always keep my key on me now. But as mentioned about the spot for the fob under the tray in the console is used to retrieve your factory door code (2 fobs required) and for starting the truck if your fob battery is dead.
These fobs are huge. I'm sure Ford could have made them much smaller. Truck seems smart enough to know the fob is inside the cab and doesn't allow you to just pull the handle to open. Guess the question is how you are using your truck. If I'm working at a job site and going back and forth to my truck having to go to the drivers side door to unlock the truck before getting something from the passenger side back seat or rear is more of a pain than carrying the fob. If wearing shorts or going on a hike or anywhere that you have to leave your keys like the beach I think locking inside the truck is a better option. I don't think there is ANY problem using that spot under the tray to store the fob. Someone please correct if not true...
The Key FOB works on either front door, You don't have to go to the Drivers door first.
I keep a Spare key in my truck. But I insert it inside a Faraday bag. The truck can't see a key in a Faraday bag, So if I lost my pocket key, I could use the door codes to open the truck and get the faraday bag out and use that key to drive home. I ride horses in some pretty remote places and it's often 30 miles just to get a cell signal to call for help and then it could be several hours before anybody could come, So I try to be self reliant
I leave my key in my pocket and rarely take it out. It's not too big a deal, since I rarely have any coins in my pocket with our current cashless society. If I'm going some place wet, river rafting, swimming, etc, I just hide the key, often in the same Faraday bag as my spare and use the door code.

When I was a teenager (way back) I lost my keys on the job site, after that I would put the round and square keys they had back then in a boat floater registration keeper lightly Vaselined, tie wrapped underneath (wouldn't care laying under to get a key to go home). Ford has keyless entry what a great invention huh. Why would I leave the spare key home and not hidden in the vehicle. If I owned another truck w/o keyless (I wouldn't) I'd still leave the key/fob in the truck. Worst scenario break the passenger window and get the key, drive home, no big deal. My "20" they said was going to be keyless I didn't want that. It isn't keyless, if it was I would put it in a frequency barrier bag like the other guys here stated and keep it hidden in the truck. I don't know about anyone else but I like to handle my own business and be prepared, not be a bleating sheep calling for help (unless absolutely necessary). That's why the spare is hidden in the truck.................. Take the spare tire off and leave it in the garage along with the jack they are way to much trouble to haul around, much more trouble than a spare key...............

If you leave the key fob in the vehicle and want to get in you have to use the key pad which is only on the drivers side.

If the fob is left in the vehicle, you can only lock it with the keypad. You cannot unlock it unless you have the other fob, or the keypad. Just walking up and opening door will not work. I used to do it all the time with my F150 while playing softball.
If the key is hidden I don't think the thief will break in to look for the key to start and steal the truck..... I think he already knows how to w/o the key that's why he's there. If that's not why he's there it's a punk kid 12-19 taking loose change (never show things of value) or accessories. You would not find my key if you were concentrated on trying to. If my truck gets stolen there wont be my keys in the ignition, Two trucks ago and previous I put a simple kill switch on the fuel inertia shut off behind the kick plate in the foot well. Switch was under dash on brake bracket for easy reach. I haven't read about if they still do that.
