I bought a used camper shell for our truck 8ish years ago when we had a travel trailer. We moved to a 5th wheel design a couple years later. The camper shell is propped up on cinder blocks under a covered, open storage area near the treeline of our property.
This could be a solution to reclaim some of the "ground space" and keep the cover high and dry. I have been storing my wood turning material out in this location as well and could use the extra space.
Thanks for posting this with the details of the design.
Nice but ad some safety chains that attach from your supporting boards to the ceiling above. That way if a rope slips or the winch malfunctions you topper stays up.

I don’t have anything safety’s directly attach to the supports under the camper but I do run a large bolt through the winch drum and frame in case the winch gear or dog fails.
Wow. Good climate you have then. I can’t have stuff in the garage without it starting to rust or get dusty after a year.
Im in the same boat. All of my woodworking machines will get powder rust on the tops if I don’t keep them treated and covered. All the components for my camper hanger are galvanized. I live about 6miles from Galveston bay so we have salt in the air.
