rust spot on tone ring
My speedometer bounces about 3 mph at higher speeds. Cruise control functions but is constantly adjusting quickly. Once in a while the OD light will flash and gives harsh shifts. I replaced the VSS sensor on the differential, no change. Looking at the tone ring, there is no damage except there are 2 teeth next to each other that have rust on them and another one by itself with rust. It is not a rust that I can just scratch off with a finger nail. Is this system so sensitive that this may be causing my problem? I don't have a scope to use.

with the gas pedal not depressed I got codes 23 and 29 with no 1's at the beginning.
If I am understanding what others have said, the 23 without pedal being depressed doesn't matter.
The 29 is the vehicle speed sensor. Which, brings me back to my original question. Can the rust spots cause this? When I replaced the VSS nothing seemed to change. Even the bouncing of the speedometer stayed the same. I'm thinking to trace the wiring before doing anything else. I did replace it with one from Autozone. Does this matter?
