Had a very similar situation with a 2004. Always felt like it was pulling to the right. 1st dealership had it, did an alignment, said there wasnt anything wrong. Took the tech for a ride and was going straight and said watch this, and let go of the wheel and let it pull itself into the ditch. Tech agreed something wasnt right, but they could never pin point it. Took it to another dealership and had them look at it, they said there was something wrong with the rack. I had an extended warranty so they replaced it, no money out of my pocket, and it was good to go. Im now thinking that what the second dealership thought was wrong with the rack was just the centering setting as described above, but they didnt know it and just swapped the rack.

well i just got it back, had to pick up after hours.

at best its slightly less worse.

its like this: the truck thinks the center of the wheel should be approx 10'o clock and if you let go it wants to center it right back there. at best the drift is slightly less. if you come to a stop it straightens out-like literally the pressure on the wheel is gone and it goes the proper center, if you go less than 25mph it straightens out.. they aligned it, its damn perfect. its just the electronic bs i guess. literally going 50mph down the road and it it looks like this \-\. no matter how much you turn to the right it just wants to go back

I will be calling and asking for the service manager tomorrow and making an appointment to go down there and test ride with them.

so just googling around i think i narrowed my issue down to what ford calls pull drift compensation

older trucks seemed to have this issue circa 15-16

Welp here we are, a month later and still no fix.

Its been to the local dealer 2x now and and they stated they aligned it. I went for a ride with the service manager who seemed to be an idiot and said he would see about the alignment or such. Week goes by after they have it and I went down there and just test drove it before I picked it up, same exact thing. They had it a week and the writer I dealt with said per the notes they adjusted the alignment and cross camber. I talked to them for 15 mins and explained that PERHAPS its the steering rack or steering angle sensor and that they need to correct this or Im going to be calling ford

At this point Im calling ford monday or tues when I have some free time. The truck is a year old and has 8k and has had this issue since day 1. it almost feels like someone is putting pressure on the wheel to go to the left all the time, more road crown the road has the worse it is.

Has the rear axle been checked? It could be slightly off. I’ve seen this before. Especially if lift blocks have been added. Have some one floow you for a few miles and video your truck. Look to se if the rear is tracking with the front.

Its not crab walking, already checked for that.

Sad part is 50 bucks its the steering angle sensor but these idiots dont seem to get it and just keep aligning. how they dont notice it drifting IDK. I even went for a ride with the manager ffs. Im going to call ford tomorrow when i get some time, today as to busy at work. Worst case I will take it to another dealer, theres one about 40 miles away that I work with all the time for the body shop (Im an insurance adjuster) so I know it will be taken care of

just so annoying that they keep playing this game. its not like they arent getting paid to fix it

Partly true, and also it’s part of what Ford will compensate them for and how much. I’m sure a good service writer could make sure it’s written in such a way that they get properly compensated by Ford. Sounds like a lazy dealer service dept.

down the rabbit hole we go.

no contact from dealer since saturday of last week when i refused the truck. called ford corporate today and they found the dealer has been in contact with ford because they cant figure it out. in other words..the idiots figured out like i said it wasnt the alignment..gee ya think after 3 of them?

the ford rep told me to wait till early next week and call the dealer if i get no update. i will be pushing for a loaner at this rate if they cant get it done soon

It appears your dealer has little knowledge of electronic steering assist.
The control module can set at least two DTC codes for malfunction.
B1D23 and C102D.
There is a calibration that can be done after repairs.
Do a search of FORD EPRS and read about how it works, then you have a better base of understanding.
You know that Mickky Ds can't even get any one to serve coffee at the window and put the lid on tight. You have to look at it before taking it in the vehicle and spill all over.
Good luck.

I dont doubt you Bluegrass. i told them from the get go after alignment 1 where they showed me a perfect sheet that it was probably a rack/steering sensor issue.. but you know how dealers can be. if it wasnt under warranty id take it elsewhere.

which is why it seems its the dumb electric power steering system. i havent gotten around to calling the dealer, im hoping they can recalibrate it
Seems likt you are going forward with all the right questions, tests, etc...... and I agree, sounds like a programming issue!!!!!!

i called ford corp again, they tried to call the dealer and speak to the service manager who seemed like he was avoiding them, i was on hold for an hour while at working doing stuff thankfully. he said he put them in contact with a ford engineer now or something.

i swear by friday if there is no update ford corp needs to send a tow truck and move it somewhere else. they told me (ford) that they couldnt assist with a loaner unfortunately.

this is ridiculous

Update: I had to call and file several unhappy complaints with ford customer service and I had to call the dealer for every single update. I called them thurs afternoon and wouldnt you know its done. 3 weeks of them having my truck and they aligned it and apparently checked the steering angle sensor calibration...not one call to me at all. not one update, not one hey were working on it call.

I gave up and picked it up. Its marginally better, the wheel is now at the 10'oclock position and it still drifts and I still feel like turning right it wants to return harder then left-almost like the wheel is...you guessed it not centered properly and the rack has an issue.

Bottom line is I dont want to ever deal with that dealer again. I already called ford and another dealer who doesnt have any loaners till maybe 2-3 weeks so Im on a wait list. I already discussed lemon law with the rep from ford and they said they would need to investigate if it met the criteria..where they will find me a truck optioned with what I have IDK as its a unicorn

Bottom line is I want a second opinion for sure.. I still say its an issue with the rack or sensor.

Oh even better is: i have a ford escape for a company car. the company leases them and told me to take it to a local firestone cause the a/c was blowing hot. they charged it and said it was fine..for all of about 3 days it was lol. back it goes, after 2 days they cant figure it out. leasing company calls me and advises they want to take it to nearest dealer...which is the same one who had the truck..yea uh no. firestone thinks its something computer related..

Mine does the exact same thing. I replaced the oem tires at 13,000 miles with Firestone destination AT’s. Exact same thing. Dealer checked alignment and said all is good. Ouch
