I get about 19 just driving back and forth to work. I can get about 22 in performance tune but I like the tow tune because of the firm shifts.
Welcome to the forum. Definitely nice find on the dually. No paint job will ever be as good as the factory one. I’d learn to love the color it is.
If you are using a programmer for tuning, you will be amazed at how much better tuning there is. Most times when people say ‘firm shifts’ - they describe what I consider abysmal and it’s just increased line pressure that is not doing your transmission any favors. Also, adding fuel/power with no EGT gauge is a dangerous game. The most annoying thing about crappy tuning is the 100% throttle at 50% pedal that makes people think their truck is peppier than it really is.
Good call on the turbo choice!!! Look forward to what you do to these trucks!
Thanks Sous
Your posts have been one of the reasons I’ve decided to go the route I have with my turbo purchase! KC 300 63/68 -0.84A/R with stock injectors and all the intake and exhaust goodies to go with it. I may even go with some injectors later on, when my wallet recuperates😂. Thanks for all your detailed info!
Thank you for the kind words sir. I only try to pay it forward or pay the community back for all of the help they have provided to me over the past years. This is a place like no other on the internet and we prefer to keep it that way.
That turbo is a great choice! I would have liked to try that turbo back in 2018, but it did not exist at the time.
In addition to what Jeff has said in the quote below, we would love to hear your input on the KC turbo in the following link. If you have a spare few minutes one of these days, there are several FTE'rs actively seeking details about the KC 63/68.
I'm glad to see this - very little data on this turbo with stock injectors. Please share what info convinced you to go this route.
I have the old two-tone blue/tan paint - I bet your rig will look good with the new colors - but it looks pretty darn nice right now.
Welcome to FTE!
Hopefully I'll have some info in the next couple weeks. All of my parts are shipped and should be arriving in the next couple days. I plan on starting the tear down tonight and maybe having it finished for a camper trip on the 20th.
As far as why I went the route I did. Here is my logic, but keep in mind I'm still pretty green.
1. I don't drive hard. I can count on one hand the number of times either of my trucks have been at or over 3kRPM. So a small turbo made more since to me, being able to make power at lower RPM.
2. Stock injectors are due to $$$$$. This build is going to come in stages as I can afford it. Plus I don't plan on going any bigger than 160/0 or 160/30.
3. I wanted the truck to remain as tow friendly as possible. I want a little extra giddy up with out having to worry to much about EGTs.
4. Though I am planning on doing some trans upgrades I didn't want to have to build a stage 3 trans.
5. This seemed like the best route to avoid getting into too many other upgrades to support huge injectors and big HP.

A very good, and well thought out plan!
You will have a great reliable truck!
Thanks for all the complements on my truck! She is my pride and joy right now, though I may be cussing her as a money pit down the road. She has a little fade on the dually finders and hood, and the pooky that seals the roof seams is cracking. I will for sure have to address the roof at some point, it rains for months at a time down here! Its kind of funny the door sticker says she was supposed to go to Canada but wound up on the Texas coast.
Thanks Sous

I think this is a great choice. I would love to know how it compares to the BW 363/68/0.91sxe. My guess is similar but not quite as efficient. I think I would have been very happy with the KC drop in had I went that route.
Somewhere someone mentioned “small”. My feeling is that this isn’t a small turbo for a stock injector truck. Compared to a MST I imagine it bumps the power band up just a bit but performs much more efficiently across the spectrum. This should perform better under a constant loading during towing conditions. All just speculation mind you. Charlie from KC shared a lot of good information about the ranges of turbos which has been captured in the Turbo Matrix thread here. Turbo Matrix
As Sous mentioned, I would love for you to add your review of the setup to the linked thread once you get it all completed.
It sounds like you already have the intake/exhaust on the way. Just in case you don’t, I would like to put a vote in for the AIS intake. Super quiet, filters excellent, fits like stock, and seems to flow well to about 25psi. I’m running it with the 363/68sxe and find it to fit my needs well. I’m rarely at the high rpm super boost conditions that would like more flow. I’ll trade off some of that for the clean fit and quiet.

I will post my results when I'm done and have some drive time on it, though I'm not sure how helpful it will be seeing as how I have nothing to compare to but stock.
As far as the 3k$ in parts, My wife didn't seen to find it near as funny as I did.

Where your wife is concerned.... We will be behind you.... just make sure that you are standing between your wife and us...
Tell your wife in the most lovingly tone that the parts are NOT 'wants'.... they are 'needs' that are needed now... upfront... that will pay off in MOD Fever Grins for the whole time that you will have your truck..... What better gift for you AND your wife....

I love it!! She would agree whole heartedly. I have this truck because I wasn't happy with the last one. She is tired of me truck shopping.
