Bought a bottle and haven't decided yet if it's a go. What are your thoughts? I settled on optilube from my weekend's readings but haven't bought any yet. I've been using pm Ford stuff.

Here's a start. Overkill has a few other posts related to K100d discussions as well.

All preference, you'll drive yourself nuts if you start reading all the info on additives. I settled on Hot Shots EDT, Optilube was a close second for me but I've been happy with Hot Shots for now. I don't know if it's the 'best' but it's convenient, easy to get and seems to have decent reviews. I can't say I notice much of a difference when using it but, using their winter stuff, I had no ice issues so that's a plus.

Seems like it's a tail chasing subject for sure. Thanks all!

The general consensus is

the various demos show water being added to k100 and the k100 stops the phase seperate meaning it isolates water in k100.

BUT

the various demos of diesel fuel treated with the recommended amount of k100 show that when water is added...the water still phase seperates and In 1 demo , the mixture of fuel, k100, and water choked the engine.

the conclusion is if you run your truck with pure k100, the various demos show that your truck will be protected from water.

BUT

if you run your truck on fuel , and plan to addd k100 to it, there has not yet been a video demo that the water will be prevented from phase separation and your engine will be protected.

I bought a few bottles of this stuff and I’m still looking for evidence that it works with fuel.

If Ford would pony up and go back to a actual Racor made water block filter or upgrade the proprietary filter to water absorbing we wouldn't be so concerned about trace amounts of moisture. However until that does it will keep the additive manufacturers in business.

I've been using it since a friend of mine recommended it to me when I first bought my truck and bought it at Advance Auto. When you talk additives, it's like talking about the best oil and which one to use. Opinions are many and frequently expressed. Out of curiosity Matt, where did you buy it?

I've been and do use it every tank fill up. It's a multi purpose additive. I've stated what it claims to do many times but it's available on their website. It does add lubricity to the fuel. I have seen old wear scar test results from Kinetic Labs and the wear scars were under 400 microns. I can't remember the exact figures.

I have seen this data before on this chart as it's been on the internet since 2007 but I have also seen this website before but have never looked into their products before. I am posting this for information only as it explains the HFRR test (wear scar tests).

I'm at about 74.7k miles now.

What did you mean by the emboldened statement there Fritz?

So by your statement there I emboldened, you think I haven't had a problem because I haven't encountered water at all?

I have admitted that my past practice of not checking the DFCM by draining it is probably not the best strategy for me, you think that adding diesel fuel to the water/K100D+ is not proven and has you worried? I just want to make sure I'm understanding your POV.

But now you know why I want to make a video with the old diesel fuel I have on my shelf in my garage. I'm sure you will comment here. Looking forward to it.

"Out of curiosity Matt, where did you buy it?"

I bought it from Amazon and still have PM-22 to use before using this so trying to find out if I should or not? If not, I'll return for optilube xpd as it seems to have a good reputation. I am buying diesel from an Exxon that is right off a major interstate on an access road. The 2 times I've drained I've not seen any water at all so I'm not sure if the station is that busy or there isn't water at the station. I've owned for a month now.

Thanks guys!

That's going to be up to you bud. I have been using it for over 70k miles. Everyone here has their own opinion. I can't answer for you what you should be using. This is all based on your comfort level and what you feel is the best additive for your truck. I use K100 because I believe in it and it's for multiple purposes. I'm the only here that uses K100. Some use the Motorcraft stuff. Some use Optilube. Some use Howe's. Some use Power Service. And some use nothing at all. I'm no expert. Never claimed to be. You have to do your own research and find what works for you and your comfort level. Good luck.
