Hey folks I’ve got a 2002 f-250 with the 7.3. I recently picked this truck up, and I’ve had nothing but problems with the trans. For whatever reason it doesn’t want to accept 2nd gear. It will ride the rpm up to almost 3k till it shifts down to third. I recently pulled the tuner chip that had been installed, no change. Should I be looking at a mechanical issue or electrical? And what could cause that failure?
There should be codes stored in the PCM to help diagnose what's wrong. You need those.
To read the codes I recommend Forscan. You can download it free at www.forscan.org. Their webpage tells how to select an adapter to plug into the OBDII port. I bought mine from Amazon for less than $30.
Or you could take it to a good independent shop or a Ford dealer to read the codes. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes.
