With the boat in tow, I removed my k&n airfilter and did a full power 3100rpm-run down the highway. The turbo whine was very noticable and Ive never seen my turbo hit 14 psi before today. EGTs were still uncomfortably high at around 1100°. I checked the air filter suction indication and it showed less restriction, but definately more than I expected.
I have a lead on a factory turbo system that I may grab in the next few day. I dont know if itll help, but its worth a shot. It just seems strange that although im making 14 psi of boast, im not feeling any additional power. Im curious if the truck would be equally as slow if I pull the turbo off and ran it NA.

That's odd, when my truck was almost new, I ran my shop 5" vacuum gauge into the cab temporarily from the stock air cleaner, hooked up my heavy 3 horse gooseneck trailer and hit a close by steep grade to get max demand of intake air and the gauge needle didn't move. Don't know how come you're getting any restriction reading on your stock system and I wasn't.

5" of water? 5" of hg? Or maybe it was a 5 psi gauge that you were using. I did the conversion and my airbox and airbox makes ~0.5 psi restriction. The airbox without the filter is ~0.25 psi.

If you're getting high EGTs at 14 lbs of boost and no air filter something is up with the pump or engine compression no? Is it making lot's of smoke?
Could be a previous yahoo owner turned the pump way up and is drowning it in diesel.

I towed the 5500 lb boat and trailer again yesterday and had better results in the cooler temperatures.
Im acending a shallow hill and as you can tell from the photo, Im running in 3rd gear, ~60 mph, 9psi of boost, 1050°f. Im modulating the throttle to keep the egts out of the red. Coolant temp was pas the 'L' of normal (the thermostat regulate it to 'R' when im not towing).
My next step is to build a test-boot to place over the compressor inlet to look for intakes leak with the engine off.
In the long term, ive purchased a 2001 F350 PS parts truck to swap the drive train over when I get some free time.
