We are discussing an engine with 1000’s of individual parts that each have manufacturing tolerances. If all the tolerances line up in your favor, it’s a different truck than if they don’t.

I’ve been in stock trucks that ran like a raped ape and others that were a dog. Similar everything. Some stock turbos never surge with added power and some would self destruct by the end of the block if not modified/upgraded.

Then you have literally 10’s of 1000’s of people who think their stupidchips programmer is the most awesome thing ever and guys like @ESwift who are almost impossible to get ‘dialed in’. (I teased him about trying desensitization therapy )

Agreed and totally understood. My comment was just to illustrate that obviously each tuner is doing things differently, and I still have a very limited understanding of what they're actually doing that might work well in one truck and just not well at all in another. In my logging so far, I'm showing really similar outcomes in ICP, FIPW, IPR, etc. But still, one will clearly run better than another.

I'm currently just using Torque Pro. Does anyone have any idea how to get some insight into timing?

I just found this very old thread that has a ton of info on this subject, I've really just started to digest it: https://www.powerstroke.org/threads/...0/post-3025576

Listen to it or trust that if it hasn't chucked a rod yet you're likely fine.

"Timing" does exist in the ROM and I know the PID address for it but not the formula (so kind of pointless for much). I believe the latest Edge Insight/CS/CTS products will show it but you might want to call Edge Products and make sure if it's that important to you.

From a "tuner" (person writing them) standpoint, it doesn't take much to figure out exactly what's being commanded and when but it is an involved mathematical process depending on how many data points one wants.

Thanks, I was just wondering if that was a likely suspect in terms of why "tow" tunes (on average) seem to run better (and more efficiently) in my truck.
