I have a 01 7.3, 170k, I love my truck, I've had it sents 01. I'm looking to add some performance to it, without taking the life away. What is the best way to do this without bankrupting myself?
Im in a stock truck, too, and reading the past year... id say the openers seem to be, intake, bellowed uppers, exhaust, programmer. Then see where you are compared to where you want to be. But those 4 things seem to be on most trucks, if not first, they get forced if you get new injectors, or turbo.
First get your truck running at 100%, then give us an idea of your use, do you tow much, is it a workhorse or daily driver? Then set yourself a budget, $1k, $2k, more, less?
My truck was completely stock, I added a tuner (DP) with canned tunes, it woke it up nicely & the shift strategy when towing is much better, but it's made me want more in the future PMS has got a hold.....
As these guys said give us more detail on your intended use. Getting the truck up to OE condition is the right place to start, then add power, mods for longevity, etc. A pic of the engine bay can help here.
Keeping it mostly stock with a power bump from a tune is a common strategy. To really open up the power potential it will need injectors and a turbo, significant costs. Tell us your budget in addition to your goals.
