RANGER CAPS
Hey Ranger drivers. Lookiing for a cap. Stay away from Century caps. Just ordered one at the beginning of April here in Ottawa because the end of May, I'm headed out to the west coast. The cap came five weeks later. I had a quick look and saw runs in the paint/clearcoat. Told the retailer he was not putting that mess on my Ranger. He took a look and found that the paint job was a mess and also that the window seals were not up to snuff. They dove in and tried to fix it. It looked OK and they put it on my truck on Saturday 22 May. That's what seven weeks. And yeah, they forgot, I paid for the roof rack up front. It was not delivered. So Saturday, I was 8 days from departure with only the installed mounts and sliding mounts installed. No brackets or cross members. This is pitiful. It's now 26 May. I'm leaving in 5 days, with a messed up cap with no roof rack. As well the rear door does not come down to the tail gate top. They used a wide piece of foam tape to try to close the gap. But there are clear areas you can see light right under the foam tape. Terrible job. Terrible fit. Friday noon. Its the show down. The roof rack has to be complete or they may have to take the whole cap off and give me my refund. That does not heal the knot in my ugly face.
If you know of a good cap that fits properly, let us know.
Friday noon came and went. The local retailer did his best for me and found a set of Thule cross members for me, because Century did not provide. I was told today that Thule is at a standstill due to the Covid problems and have a lot of inventory back ordered. Drives me crazy that Century received my order from the retailer, produced the color matched cap with the Thule rails on it when they knew that the cross members were not available and they could not provide. If this is the case, why wouldn't they just come back and say that they can't do the roof rack. How is it that you can have a customer buy something and you send back to the customer only a portion of the requirement. They should have been upfront and said, sorry, no can do, on Day 2. Anyway, the local guys, found the cross members and fixed me up. They also told me that they are no longer handling Century products. If that's the case, I guess that says it all.
