I would try grabbing the wire loom that goes to the door from the cab and wiggle it around while working the switch to check for a broken or cracked wire.
Dirty switch contacts are a very common issue on fords. Happened to Dads truck, I cleaned the contacts and the button worked by pressing a little harder than normal until the new one arrived. Easy to try.
Electric windows on most Fords typically wire through the driver's door switch. That one is the cause of failures more often than the switch located closest to the window.
I'd pull the switch panel and test the driver's door switch(es) first. If the switch tests good, test for voltage at the motor.
Mine did the same thing, contacts went bad in the buttons, ordered the new control on amazon/ebay, and fixed it right up.
Even though it was only 2 of the buttons acting up, i replaced the lock button as well since i was in there already.
EDIT: I just saw on your profile you list having an 04 Excursion, triple check your fitment before ordering!!!! GEM made a lot of the electronics inside change at the 2002-2003 point, but not all.
I had a problem with mine performing intermittently as well. The motor was on its way out. Pulled the regulator and swapped in a new motor, and all was well
i knew mine was the switches because it was occurring on all windows, and if i wiggled and pressed real hard, almost to the point of breaking the damn thing they would intermittently work. installed the new switches, problem is GONE
I was having kinda the same issues.... including my AC going in and out.
Ended up being a bad battery connection. The ground on 1 of my batteries was loose and corroded. I only found this after tearing all the dash, doors etc out and troubleshooting.
Don't be like me. Clean and tighten battery cables and vehicle grounds before troubleshooting.
