2016 F150 Oil Filter Relocation Kit

Has anyone installed a relocation kit for your oil filter on the 3.5L engine? If so, how well did it work, what manufacturer did you use, and what (if any) change in the amount of oil required for an oil change did you see?

I've searched the threads but can't find this particular item - thanks in advance!

I have not, but I'm curious. Is the 3.5l filter in a bad spot? I can't seem to recall being that annoyed by it on my 3.5l but that was on a 2014

We have both a 2014 and 2016 F150 with the same engine and the oil filter is in relatively the same location on both - right over the 4x4 axle is a plastic pan design to catch the oil and then dump it both in the front and behind the front driver side axle. While not impossible to get to, its just a PITA and was curious if anyone had found a good relocation kit. Thanks!

I did one a while back with a Derale kit and to be honest it sucked. The gasket on the engine adapter blew out two separate times with two separate gaskets (they sent me a new gasket after the first incident but wouldn't give me a refund after the second because I had it too long). Threw it in the trash after the second. Nothing like having to be towed home twice in a matter of 500 miles. I decided after that to park uphill when draining the oil and it now always runs out the rear drain of the plastic pan on the top of the axle.

I would love to install a remote oil filter kit for my truck. I have the full RCI bash plate set under my truck and to access the filter I have to remove the first two bash plates. Yes, I know some of you say you can access your filter from the top but I, at nearly 80 years old, am not that limber.
I used to own a 1988 S-10 Blazer with the 4.3 V6 engine. The oil filter on it was in about the same location as on my F150. But GM was wise enough to install a remote filter kit on it from the factory - the filter was mounted right behind the driver's side headlight. Super easy to access, and made oil changes simple and quick.
So if anyone does make a remote oil filter kit for this truck please let me know!

Thanks for all the info everyone - someday maybe the manufacturers will figure out how to make this easy . . . although my diesel has the filter on the top of the engine which is very easy. Seems like they could find a way on the gas engines too!

Thanks again!

I roll my f150 onto a set of ramps when I do my oil changes. It gives me plenty of room to work and ensures the oil only drains out the rear spout when I pull the oil filter.

If you're looking to simplify oil changes, check out the fumoto drain valves. I have one on my 2019 3.5 and it makes oil changes easier and much cleaner. I've had fumoto valves on my last 3 trucks. You can drain straight into old oil jugs without spilling a drop. The valve costs less than $40 and I highly recommend it. If you have a composite oil pan, you'll want a ronin drain plug, instead.

Yep, I use ramps and a Fumoto. Easy. The filter drains out the back of the plastic drain ramp, through the hole in the skid plate. Before ramps it was a lot more messy and the filter was harder the reach.

I too have the Fumoto.
I'll park it, put my pan under the drain (which I attached a hose to) and let it drain for a bit while I take care of a couple other small things. Come back close the drain and wipe off any residual oil then move the pan to the front and remove the filter. Takes about 20 minutes total but that includes checking other fluids and tire pressures while the oil drains.
