Oil bypass ?

I am thinking of getting a oil bypass kit that uses an Amsoil filter.
I run Valvoline Premium blue extreme 5-40 oil and I am hoping to extend my oil change intervals. I change it every 5,000 now and I would like to go to 7,500-10,000.
How often do you to change the bypass filters?

Are you using a complete Amsoil kit or just their filter? If your using a complete Amsoil kit then I would consider using Amsoil Oil instead of Valvoline, the stuff is great and in my Jeep grand with the 4.7L I change the filter at 10k and oil at 20-25k. So what I've read if you use all Amsoil (bypass, filter, oil) then it could be from 10k to 150k on a change, go to Amsoils' website for that tid bit. Hope this helps

Keep in mind your driving a 6.0L diesel and not a gasser as the poster posted above.

The 6.0L shears all brands and grades of oil down to that of a 30 weight oil within 5,000 miles or less... so extended oil changes is not recommended.

There are two things to consider... the by-pass kit will clean your oil, but if the HUEI injection system in our motors has sheard it down... then what good is it... clean sheared oil can't protect.

I run a Racor oil by-pass system (it was free) and my oil analysis reports are as good before as they are after I installed it. I have many Blackstone oil reports to back up this statement.

The full-flow oil filter that is/was designed for our motors is the best available and is made by Racor (OEM supplier to Int'l Truck Company and Motorcraft). Use an OEM filter and change your oil on a regular basis and you will be 100% fine!!!

Many of us (me included) change our oil every 5,000 miles as it is an easy number to remember and it matches up to the other service intervals needed on your truck.

Synthetic oil or dino oil... change it every 5,000 miles and use a Racor made/OEM filter (Not WIX or Purolator - these are WILL FIT filters) and you will be fine.

There is no downside to using a by-pass oil filter, but extended oil drains only work when the motor isn't beating the do-do out of the oil to begin with.

Your already using a good oil with the Valvoline... so just keep doing what your doing.

Thanks for the info guys.
This is the kit I am looking at. It just uses an Amsoil filter but looks like a good setup but is a lot less.

I have seen Jeff's used oil analysis' from before and after, so I will concur that there was no visible gain after the filter was installed. I would say to spend your money elsewhere, but it's your money.

I have seen those kits on Ebay, They do make a good pitch I will say that. I like the billet caps and with the access for secondary gauges is nice as wellon the billet caps. The only thing my gripe would be is that my coolant filter is in the place of where they put their bypass filter. And we all know there isnt much room for anything else in the engine compartment of our 6 liter trucks.

Post just passing along the info

i got this email earlier today. basically it's a package deal where if you buy enough oil and other additives they throw in the by-pass filter. i don't drive enough miles these days to for a by-pass system to make since, but am interested to see how things go and what kind of oil analysis come out. good luck

also

also i see a lot of you guys liking the Valvoline Premium blue extreme 5-40

i have just switched to the new(ish) motorcraft 5w 40 and my truck is seeming to like it. haven't had it in the truck for many miles but the cold starts seem smoother and hopefully i can get a oil analysis out of this change (*somehow every time it comes down to it the hassle factor wins)

Here's all you need to know about this subject (Amsoil and by-pass filtration). And this guy isn't selling either.

I run Amsoil and by-pass. I change everything at about 15k miles. I have zero problems and my truck us SUPER dependable, and, at times I run the sh_t out of it (with camper + trailer)

I strongly advise aginst tring to extenc the oil change interval. Its just not a good idea. the bypass oil filter kit should not hert anything as long as regular oil changes are done.
Its your truck, its your money and its your $10,000 dollar engine.
