Warn Hub install questions

Ok I have a 1990 Bronco and just got Warn Premium hubs to put on it. I've taken the auto hub body off and am having a hard time removing the retaining clip behind it. Is there a trick to it or do I just force it off somehow? Will I need this clip for later, if not I'm really going to crank on it and snap it if I have to.

I'm pretty sure I need to get this and the spacer behind it off cause I can't get the hubs to fit otherwise. Thanks for any input you have.

I imagine your speaking of the retaining ring around the actual axle shaft, that should have two ears with holes in them. If you go to any parts store you should be able to buy a snap ring pliers to get it off. Be carefull of how flimsy the cheapo snap ring pliers are, that ring is really strong. I dont remember if it was required to remove it for installing the manual hubs. hope that helps.

Hmm... I can get the auto hub out but the Warn's won't go in. The problem is they won't go all the way in. I'm unable to install the snap ring nor the lock ring. If I look in there I see another ring that is holding a spacer in front of the spindle nuts(the four pronged nut, in case I have the name wrong). When I measure the depth to the nut I have enough clearance for the hubs. The depth to the spacer is not enough for the hub body to clear the ring grooves. I hope I'm making sense here. Thanks for the help though. Any ideas?

Did you check to be sure that you don't need the adapter kit for the new hubs? I have manual hubs from the factory, but saw something about this last week on FTE.

Good luck.

If your hubs have 5 screws holding the cap on you don't need the adapter but if it has 3 you need it.

These are 5 screw hubs. My main problem is the Warn hubs aren'y fitting right. There seems to be a piece in the back I need to get rid of. I just want to make sure that is the right piece.

i seem to remember a small retaining ring with a rubber seal that we had to remove on my buddies k-5 blazer when we converted to manual hubs. Being a dana 44 it should be relativly the same. this was another small snap ring around the axle splines, but with no eylets. try puting some white grease or something on the back of the hub, pushing it in, and taking it out, and see what it gets stuck on thats stopping it.

I just put the premiums on my Bronca couple weeks ago. The inner clip has to come out also. All it is is a "c" clip. This one has no "little loops" for snap ring pliers. Just use two screwdrivers. Hold position on one side and pry up with the other. It will pop right off, remove the clip and the piece it holds in. That will give you the extra 16th of an inch you need. BTW, make sure the spindle nut and everything is tight before you bolt on the hub.

Good luck.
