e4od torque converter change out
hey guys i need to change out a torque converter in a 91 silver anniversary with a 302 and a e4od. need to know how difficult and is there anywhere on line that i can purchase one? also is there any instructions online for this process. thank you for all feedback.

Not sure about links detailing the process but its a matter of getting the engine and tranny seperated far enough to get the converter to slide forward off the input shaft. Probably will entail either dropping the tranny or pulling the engine. There isn't enough room to push the engine that far forward without removing the radiator and a lot of the front end gak bolted to the engine. I only say this because when I replaced the 302 in GS, I had to pull the converter with the engine because of rounded off converter-to-flywheel nuts. To get the TC out with the engine I had to pull everything off the front of the 302 including the timing cover.

On my 88 I droped the tranny to change mine I had never done it so I wanted to make sure I got it fully ingaged. It was kind of a pane I had to undo the y-pipe from the manifolds so I could get out the right side crossmember gusset bolts and on the left side I had to undo a large portion of the fuel system to get that gusset out. After that it was smooth sailin. I replaced the flex plate once just by sliding the tranny back on the crossmember and I dont think there was enough room to get the torque converter out that way even if there is getting the new one in and ingaged propperly would be a challenge.
