Replaced A/C system, still have issues.

For starters, I threw the sink at it because the truck is old, was abuse and everything thing I run into show signs of pure neglect. A/C hasn't worked since I bought the truck. Had a moment and gave it a whole new system.

I just replaced the compressor, the dryer, the orifice tube, and the condenser on my A/C system. I've also replaced high and low pressure sensors.

With no refrigerant in it, the A/C compressor will not cycle on unless I jump the low pressure sensor on the dryer.

With no refrigerant in the system, shouldn't the compressor be on?

Thank you.

No, low pressure sensor prevents the compressor from cycling so you don't burn it up. The system has to be fully charged to work.

^^^ What @udsuth78 said. Without refrigerant, the the low pressure switch will prevent the compressor from running.

Remember to evacuate the system before adding oil and refrigerant.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you. What PSI does it fluctuate at?

I haven't been able to do that as I can't find a place that can fit me in before my road trip starts.

Since your are filling a system from scratch, it is more accurate to fill by mass. 42oz R134a and 9oz PAG 46 oil per this chart. Pressures will fluctuate depending on condenser and evaporator temperatures.

Do what? Evacuation? It is critical as any moisture will contaminate the system and react with the refrigerant to form acids that will eat your AC system from the inside out.

If you have access to a good sized air compressor one of these will get the job done. I used one last summer to evacuate and recharge the system on my truck. If you don't evacuate the system it won't cool anywhere close to it's potential, plus the moisture left in the system can cause damage to your new parts.

This is good information, thank you. I might just stop messing with it and see about having it checked out on Monday when I get to the west coast. I'm just out of time these days and doing this mid road trip was silly.

Thank you for everyone's help. I misunderstand the purpose of the switch.

Filled the system and it works great. Made it 2,000 miles to Washington without issue. Up and to Alaska tomorrow!
