I have an exhaust leak on my 2001 V10 Excursion along with the accompanying broken exhaust manifold studs. I'd like to replace the stock manifold with headers, and am leaning towards Gibson headers. Are they good? What would you recommend? I'm definitely not interested in spending Banks money, but still want a quality product.
I know you don't want to spend the extra for Banks but they really are top notch headers. Thick flange, quality made and easy install once the broken studs are taken care of. I have them on my Ex for about 3 years now and really like them. I have the whole Banks exhuast. The only thing i might change some day is the muffler to an AT 3030 for possibly a little better sound.
I hate to jump on the pile after you said that you don't want to spend the money on Banks, but I've had my Banks headers for over 8 years, this is on our dedicated tow rig that sees most of its miles with a 12K TT on the hitch, so plenty of heat and RPMs. My headers have been perfect with zero issues and they never even required a retorque on the mounting bolts. I think the Banks headers are as good or better than any other option available, and in my mind worth the expense.
When I was shopping for them I talked to Banks directly and they offered me 20% off and free shipping at that time (Nov 2012), so give them a call and see if they are still willing to throw some discounts your way.
